Montero Sport -4wd/Hubs won't disengage

Ya the black ones. If you've got yours working off the truck they should go on fine. I didn't have any problems with the fitment on the truck it was just the hub itself. He said he's sold 50 pairs so I think mine was a fluke. Internally they look just like aisins.

I figured he would be stand up about it. He's been on the 'Wire for a while and as you noted, has sold plenty of other products as well without any real issues.

Well after a long weekend with (among other things) the sport, I have installed the hubs (which are awesome! thanks Paul!) I also am now "tricking" or "fooling" my 4wd system.

Basically there is a two wire switch that lets the ABS and 4wd computer know if the free wheel clutch is engaged or not. Since my free wheel clutch isn't disengaging anymore (fine with me) I simply took that wire, brought it to a switch inside my vehicle and voila! I now have a switch I will flick to "on" (or both wires touching creating a loop) for when I engage my transfer lever and front hubs and then flick to "off" or just disconnecting the wires to tell the system that the free wheel clutch would normally be disengaged.

I'd only recommend this "hack" though IF the manual hubs are disengaged and/or you even have manual hubs. If not and you are wrong and tell the computer that the freewheel clutch is disengaged and it isn't and your hubs are still engaged and/or you don't have manual hubs the ABS when activate will most likely ruin a front end component or just hurt itself.

I've got a set of plh hubs on my Montero and mine were easy to use. No binding at all. Nothing looked corroded either. I did put a light coat of lube on any of the components that moved before I assembled the hub, so maybe that helped...

If anyone else is interested, there's a set of OEM Aisin hubs on eBay for $120ish.

iirc, Mitsu axles are 28 spline (i4 & v6). Some parts may interchange but the Isuzu hub simply won't work on the Montero.

Good catch! I just saw he had it listed for Monteros... probably a confused seller. The other Isuzu Aisin hubs on eBay are listed as 17 spline? So who knows what he's got.

*Edit, Looks like Toyota IFS uses a 26 spline Aisin... maybe that's what they're from.

Glad everyone's hubs worked out. I just got a pair with some manufacturing defects. It happens and plh took care of it no problem. I was just in a time crunch and there was also a pair of factory aisin's that had been rebuilt on ebay. I shot the guy an offer and he took it. They installed easy peasy and look great.

Very sorry about that, there were a couple burrs that were hanging everything up. After I cleaned them out they work fine and will use this pair on my '92. Checked the couple other pairs I have left in stock and they are OK. Not sure what happened. The supplier (ChangFeng Mitsubishi) has been very consistent in the past.

Literally the day I read this post, my front tire icon starts flashing and it seems like my truck is engaging 4Hi all by itself. ******?!?! Grrrr!!!! =P

Its gotta be a sensor. The 4Hi engagement is mechanical and requires the cockpit lever to be moved. The indicator lights in my '92 rarely work, but moving the lever - you know there is a change of state.
