Motor Trend compares Jeeps from 1945 and 2012

Although the JK is finally receiving a better engine and has a great suspension design, it still seems to have a crappy plastic interior. It's too bad that modern Jeeps will never hold their value the way vintage Jeeps have. But the same goes for any vintage vehicle, because most modern cars are crap and not built to last or with pride like they once were. And I wish Jeep would go back to their roots with the simplicity of years past instead of catering to the masses, I'm sick of seeing blinged out JK's that will never even see dirt. Kids have the "my daddy bought me a Jeep mentality" and drive them like they are something special. And then you have the "I gotta have it" crowd who get up to their eyeballs in debt because they think a Wrangler with $10k in mods will make them the cool kid on the block, but then you see them selling it 10 months later because they can't afford to put gas in it with their $600 mo payment, see it all the time on the forums and classifieds. C'est la vie....

Back on topic....

marketing to the masses makes sales. Sales keep Jeep in business. Jeep in business keeps us in parts and new/used Jeeps. Who cares that other people pour loads of cash into their rides. Just means that we have cheap parts in good condition when they sell them. ;)

Also, each generation of Wrangler type Jeep has been more capable than the last, either right off the lot or similarly modified. It's nuts to be railing against more capable Jeeps.

And those good 'ol days weren't so good. Tune ups every 10k miles, kidney harness ride, in the winter a blast furnace at the dash and ice cubes in the seats, in the summer a blast furnace everywhere, cupped tires, enough range to barely get from home to the gas station and back, flex in the frame rather than the suspension, death defying near the speed limit, yelling back and forth passing for "conversation" - and that was with the soft top on, ....

Your complaints are kinda humerous coming from a GC owner, eh?

Hey ! Quit talking about my TJ like that........:)
Seriously. I agree , the TJ was a huge improvement over the YJ and the JK is a huge improvement over the TJ. Jeep has never strayed far from their "roots".

I still prefer the TJ to the JK for most stuff, however I gotta say I like most of the exterior - 4 doors and all but I am not keen on the interior... and would rather have my CJ-7 back if it hadn't rusted out... I loved the old steel dash, center mounted gauges and *great heater* even though I have to scrape the windows on the inside to drive in the winter

I believe he refers to someone who owns and drives a Grand Cherokee, (arguably the MOST plastic and "city-fied" of all Jeeps) complaining that the JK is too refined! I must say, I too find it kinda funny:sombrero:

I think the JK is the best thing Jeep has made in a while. Would I have preferred that they kept the straight six engine, or offered the 4.7 or 5.7 V8s? Absolutely. Maybe some day we will get that or a diesel.

I would also LOVE to have a GPW in the garage too!

As someone who has a stock 42 Willys and 95 Wrangler I can tell you the main difference is space for the driver. An average guy will have the steering wheel touching his stomach.

The 95 is clearly more practical as it goes and stops faster but the 42 is a lot more fun.

And I find the newer GC to be complete crap, each to their own though. I bought my Jeep for its wheelbase, space, and suspension design, not for a cushy ride or amenities. I suppose the same could be said for JK buyers, it just took Jeep a long time to catch up.

I drive a 1945 CJ2A. I also have a 2012 JK Unlimited. This is my 3rd JK Unlimited. I've only ever owned Wranglers and CJ's. I've had 10 all together. There is lots about the JK I don't love. But its all interior or looks. As in function I can't complain about the JK in anyway. But no matter what.. rain or shine ill drive the CJ over the JK any day. Its a real jeep. Real jeeps are spelled with a lower case, "j" . Lol :)

Why have you gone through 3 JK's? Are they really that bad?

No. .... im a jeep salesmen.

Salesman, as salesmen is plural. I used to be one of those as well back when we could get full price on a new Landcruiser, those were the good old days! It's nice to have paid summers off to go play these days though.
