Mounting a Solar Panel to your hood?

Personally i would work my way backward and figure out the length of days you would like to run those things vs. their power consumption needs. Solar is fairly pricey- and probably only starts to make sense with 1week plus of boondocking. Otherwise- batteries- and a very nice alternator to battery charger with a possibly upgraded alternator would be a great alternative for anything up to 1 week.

Again tho- id figure out the amp hours needs per day---and work backward to see if you really will need the solar to augment your batt system.

I can't see any point in permanantly mounting solar systems to vehicles, caravans, camper trailers etc.

Maybe its different in the states, but when I'm setting up a camp, or parking my vehicle, I'm trying to do so in the shade to stay a little bit cooler. Haveing to park a vehicle in the sun, to keep the batteries charged up to run (for example) a fridge in the back is counter intuitive. Reason being that the vehicle will be hotter in the sun, and the fridge will be consuming more energy to stay cool!

If solar suits your style of camping, stick with foldout panels you can point at the sun, and keep you car in the shade.
