More field testing before ELK season....lol. Had a few bad thunder storms roll thru in the middle of the afternoon and nite. Trailer and canvass did great.

More things done

Got a few more things done to the trailer this past weekend.

Added switch covers and an outside A/C plug:

And added in a breaker panel:

The panel can handle 8 slim line breakers or 4 large breakers. So far I have three in there there. One for the Microwave and A/C unit I'm putting in, one for the outside plug, and one for the battery charging system.

ARB fridge should be here next week also. Slowly it's getting there!

I will be sewing a cover for this real soon! I'll post a step by step DIY when I do.

So, after a lot of research and much debate I have decided to order the 3.5 Ton McHitch uniglide automatic coupler. I had narrowed my choices down between this hitch and the Max Coupler. However, after looking at multiple videos, testimonials, ease of use, and durability, I feel this hitch wins. This hitch uses a heavy duty universal joint and as long as you leave your trailer at disconnect height you can literally back right into it and it's hitched up, just secure the pin. It has 90 degrees of movement in ALL directions without binding and has a 7000lbs rating. It meets all safety requirements and has won multiple awards to include SEMA. Here is what the hitch looks like.

Whoa! Where did you get it and how much did it cost?

Are you asking about the hitch? If you are, it's a product out of Australia. You have to go to his website www.mchitch.com.au and fill out his contact form and have him email you a paypal invoice sheet. For me here in the USA (Texas)this model will cost $395 to my door in 4 days. Honestly I have spent ALOT of time looking at all the other models out there and I am convinced that this type is the best for my needs. They make cheaper models also but I think this one is the best compromise.

I have the 2t drop on version coming, looked at lots of hitches and ordered the McHitch, then I find out they are made just an hour or twos drive from me :) A lot cheaper than the 3.5t version and perfect for my 750kg ex-army trailer The fact that they are locally approved here in Australia was also a deciding factor for me.

I looked at that same Hitch but decided on the 3.5 Ton auto because it's more beefy and you can hitch it practically anywhere by yourself. I can't wait to get it on the trailer!

So with the impending deadline to leave for ELK camp I finally got around to making my gauge cluster. It will tell me power produced, power going into the battery bank (charging), and power leaving (discharging). As of now I only have a 60watt solar panel but will upgrade soon. I'm also kicking around the idea of a wind turbine on a telescopic pole. You guys might recall my son and I built a small scale model awhile back. Anyway, here is the gauge box.

Oh, I also got around to installing the Kenwood multi tuner so we can listen to our music or watch DVDs at night. The kids can also hookup their games of the want. Here is a quick look at it. I don't have the trim pieces installed yet so it has an unfinished look at the moment.
