My DIY truck awning

Many thanks to Evldave for his excellent photos in his $100 awning thread! :hehe: I tried wrapping my brain around his explanation of things and this is what i came up with. 3/4" and 1/2" emt, canvas painters tarp "sourced" from harbor freight, bimini fittings from west marine. the pics are pretty self explanatory but if you have questions, ask away. my wife asked me to finish it before our bolivar peninsula trip yesterday.

for the project i spent nearly $100, but total material cost for the finished project is more like $60. I bought full boxes of ss screws/nuts/washers. that was $40 right there! i could have saved by just buying what i needed. instead of using adjustable tent poles on the sides, i stretched out the 1/2" emt to make the tarp tight and drilled for the bolt to hold it. i still need to get two adjustable tent poles for the up-rights. the old style "stacked" aluminum poles i had from an old tent were quickly discarded after the bottoms kept falling off while adjusting the tarp. for this trip i moved the ez-up close enough that i could clamp the bar to the ez-up framing.

with the eye bolts and velcro it rode just fine for the 220 mile round trip AT 70mph. no whistles, roars or vibrations.

thanks Evldave!!!:victory:
