They have a harness included and you simply plug it in in-line to the CD changer and it is controlled by pressing specific OEM buttons. It will essentially allow the use of any aux input through the factory speaker and also allows for Bluetooth phone use (it comes with a microphone you can install, I put mine by the overhead console).

I installed mine behind the passenger dash attached to the wiring harness and ran the BT behind the center vents and the USB to the glovebox. If you have a gen1 ipad it will charge, any newer and it doesn't draw enough, so I got a cablejive unit:

and ran mini-USB to it. I use a Blackberry compatible charger from the AUX power port in the center console. The unit I have has a coiled cable to charge my BB and 2 USB ports, one run up to the cablejive in the ipadholdr mount (Edge Series) with a Lexus mounting kit and a RAM mounting surface.

Cablejive:

The mount:

This is the bracket that attaches to bolts behind the wood trim above the glovebox and is a VERY clean install.

I used the 6" arm:

I had to trim the spacer in the Edge to fit the mini-USB for the cablejive, and also got a slim USB connector and trimmed it as well.

Works wonderfully!

Dan - thanks for posting this info.

Does that mount hold the ipad without too much vibration. Is it the same as the panavise mount? I bought the panavise to hold my HAM radio but would rather use it for the iPad if it will work. If possible could you post a picture of how it looks in that spot? I would greatly appreciate. I hadn't heard of the GROM system either, I'm anxious to research it a bit more. Does audio 'stream' through bluetooth or go through the auxiliary cord?

GROM BT won't stream through apple products, everything else will work (due to Apple's snotty BT policy).

Here are a few pics of how I have the mount. No vibration since I used the ipadholdr sticky pads to wedge it against the climate control display:

Mount from ipadholdr..very nice, I used a piece of window shim wood to tighten the fit (plan on coloring it black with a marker):

Was your 2nd picture of the first post taken at Coal Creek? It looks like that is on Trail 22 up there. If so, it would be awesome to wheel with you sometime. I come up there quite often with FJs and Xterras.

Sure is! PFran (100 series) and I did a whirlwind day trip. I am only 3 hours from CC and love it there!

Thanks. I am treading new ground on a lot of stuff so there is a lot of research. I am hoping to knock out most of my list this year and focus on saving for the long arm kit and diesel conversion in the next two years. I have to have it all done within the next two years so I can focus on my oldest son's car (he will be 14 by then and I want to build a truck with him as he approaches 16).
