My new Jumping Jack

I decided on a nose box at Lowes. It has a small profile but I will have to "engineer" a way to mount it because it is narrower than the drawbar beams. The other issue is the jack is mounted on the inside of the rail and folds back. It has a rectangular foot on it that stick up just a bit above the rail when stowed. If I mount the box on some cross beams that should do the trick, I think.

With a battery, charger and inverter in there I will be adding a hundred pounds to the tongue weight. Nice thing with the JJ is you can move the stuff on top back a bit to even everything out.

I am sure other ideas will come to me as I use it.

The jack is an easy fix, just cut off the part of the foot that's in the way...I had to do it to mine.

As for mounting the box, just use angle iron as a cross bar to span the gap.

Jumping Jack Weekend

Finely, work has slacked off enough to get a couple of days to go relax. Wish I could have made it to the mountains but not in the cards for a few more weeks. There is a nice state park outside of St. Augustine that should be peaceful and a good place to try everything out on the JJ.

I have the power all set up with AC & DC and the tent does great in the rain. I will see how everything packs on top of the trailer and how it rides.

Now, if that pesky storm in the gulf will just go by ... Pictures to follow next week. :smiley_drive:

Good luck captblack!

I think that a good deluge/windstorm is a good thing on a testing weekend close to home. Bring it, I say!

Cheers,
Mark

Got to give the new JJ a trial this weekend and I am very pleased with my trailer. Took it easy at Faver-Dykes State Park, just south of St. Augustine, FL. We took advantage of the small campground and perfect weather to unwind for a couple of days.

The only change I might make with the trailer is to add some extra padding to the beds. Although not really uncomfortable, I am a big guy and the extra padding will be nice. There is plenty of room in the tent and the large windows let the air and the night sky in - views were great!

Here's a few pics.

Thanks, Jason. It was a great weekend. We had a little rain Saturday afternoon and that small canopy was nice because we could leave the back window open. Didn't need the AC - a fan did the trick with the overnight lows in the mid 60's it was nice.

I have a small list of things to change in my set up - mostly putting everything in boxes and better organization. With the storage on top you can sure get carried away.

That park is a nice place for kayaks and small boats - lots of wildlife.

I think I'll try Osceola next - then I'll be ready for the mountains.

Take care ...

It's really great that you've got all kinds of room to haul stuff on top.

How does it tow?

Room on top is great. You can get carried away so you should follow a plan for what you want to take.

Trailer pulls great - nice and smooth. I didn't cover the back so there was some effect from wind but nothing of concern.

I am going to have to add that to my list of laces to go when I get home. I am moving to Jacksonville when I get back state side.

We will have to get together sometime - I am in Kingsland.

If I don't have to work this weekend I am going over to Lake City and check out the camping at Ocean Pond. I might check out the hunting camps but it may be hunting season so I don't know. They may be a good place to primitive camp.

Look at it this way, up here you will be closer to the mountains ... :smiley_drive:

Yes Kingsland, I know it quite well. I use to pick up Sheet rock not too far north. Yeah, I am stoked about living by the water, and being close to the mountains. I got tired of living in Tallahassee where its the same thing every day...not much variety in life.
