:sombrero: This is all pretty self explanatory--the longer you off-road, the more/less you'll pack-

The snatch block can be a life saver, changeof direction/strength--get a real shovel and learn the difference between a "SNATCH STRAP" and a "TOW STRAP"-

I have mobile winchs and a 30,000lb "snatch strap", plus too many accessories to list-
Uses of D-rings and chains/hooks are for special cases-

Good luck

Forget lugging a recovery kit, just bring JIMBO

In all seriousness though guys, be honest and tell us out of the extensive recovery kits what exactly have you needed in a jam and how many times? I see tons of suggestions and ideas here in general but looking at the pics most of the stuff looks brand new, sometimes even in the original shrink wrap. Don't get me wrong I love tools, camping equipment, and any kind of stuff to do with cars in general as much as the next guy but I'm trying to de-tox and simplify my life. Years of accumulating stuff and then getting rid of it for pennies on the dollar I'm trying to be more responsible about not becoming another consumer of whatever latest gizmo hits the market. It's easy to fall prey to the industry's brain washing of one-tool-for-one-job and stereotypes such as how tow hooks are evil and loops are the cat's paws (nevermind the decades of those things existing and our forefathers using them just fine) or whatever the latest marketing agenda. In my limited experience I've seen ingenuity in a pinch is far more helpful than carrying a plethora of tools and equipment. I think we need those sort of threads more that talk about how someone's creativity got them out of a predicament :)

Tree saver, shackle, winch. Something to lift with, the more easy accessible, the more you will use it. A sharp ax.
If the winch is on a receiver, the you are good to go.
I am always wincing myself from the rear, as I always drive into trouble, and use it in the front for rescuing friends....
