OK, its about time. You guys have already been helping me and I have not even offered a picture yet.

1997, 40th Anniversary, 114k miles, Lockers, 2.5 OME lift and shocks, 295/75/16 BFG ATs, Sliders, ARB winch bumper, M12k winch w/ synthetic line, CO2, New alternator, starter and radiator, Head gasket done.

My immediate plans are: new head unit and sat. radio, cb, seat covers. Longer term, I am thinking a new rear bumper/ tire carrier, IPOR skid, 4.88 gears, PHH replacement (sooner rather than later actually).

I hope I get to use it a little, my wife is already claiming it as her new grocery getter.

Now, do I sell the Jeep or keep it????

I kept my Jeep for about a year after finishing my Tacoma. I stopped driving it, not because the Jeep was a bad vehicle, but the Tacoma could go 9/10th where the Jeep could, but was a fully self-contained camping vehicle to. From the Darien Gap to the Arctic Ocean to the Rubicon, it did everything asked of it.

Your 80 is the same type of truck. A perfect exploration platform.

Get ready to make some cool memories with your new ride.

Cheers.

Welcome!

I'm diggin the new 80's here!

So where did you have the headgasket done at or did you do it yourself?

Did you put in the larger 150a Tundra/Sequoia alternator?

You'll love having 4.88's, especially when you're loaded with all your gear. I'm starting to think 5.29's/35's would have been a better combination for myslef :Wow1:

Here's the part number for the alternator...

27060-0F050 It's different from the 100's

It's not quite a direct bolt in. There's a gentleman on MUD - Photoman - who was fabricating brackets that allow fitment as well as belt tensoning. You'd have to PM him to see if he has anymore available. The quality and design are top notch, many others will agree.

So you take the 150a alternator and swap pulleys with your OEM alternator since the larger alternator was used with a serpantine style belt. The style of wiring harness is also different. You can get a new one from CDan. Photoman actually supplied them at the time as well. No cutting required - just take the wires out of your old plug and insert them in the new one.

Wheewww. Not too bad i guess.

There's actually a lot of 80's on original HG's with plenty of miles. I'll probably deal with it when or if it happens :)

Not that I know much about these rigs yet, but he had the HG done at around 90k- that actually scared me a bit. He also replaced the radiator, alternator and starter- all at the dealer, with similar inflated prices.

Yeah according to most, you're not supposed to do it as preventive maintenance. Ours is strong at 207k.. and im not typing another word :D
