IMO: I love the new GC. Correctly packaged, you could have a well done tourer. As in yes, it can do off-road duty. And do well enough for the typical driver/enthusiast. Hardcore types need not apply. They do have 17" wheels in the base models, and there's no reason why you couldn't get all the right items in the model level you want. I asked the dealer precisely all these questions and got a "Yes" to everything. They really are willing to accomodate what you expect out of it, as long as it's not beyond what the vehicle can do or what the manufacturer has to offer.

That is right. I do not want to overland in this thing. And please stop calling it a cockpit and trying to force the perception of vehicle operation to resemble that of aircraft operation. NO THANKS. Maybe you should become a pilot instead and leave overlanding to those who understand it. Sorry, I got a little hot here. I hate these vehicles. Plasticky, very little utility, and the thing has a shorter cargo area than my CRV. All the electronic doodads on there. Some people just don't get it, the spirit of overlanding in simple vehicles. What are you going to do, pull a maintenance trailer behind you?

It wouldn't be my first choice for an expedition vehicle, that of course would be a Honda CRV.

I'm sure y'all know the "Overland" in this case has nothing to do with overlanding, but goes back to the Willys-Overland company; Jeep has a tradition to use the Overland name for special editions.
