New Kayak

Hey all, I just picked up a new kayak as an early birthday present to myself. After doing a ton of research, I settled on a Native Watercraft Ultimate 14.5 tandem, which is really a hybrid between a kayak and canoe. Tons of storage space, the most comfortable seat I've ever experienced in a kayak, great stability, good tracking, etc. I plan to paddle for recreation + fishing. So far, I spent the weekend paddling it on the coast and logged about 10 miles total in a couple of days. It handled everything from strong tidal currents, strong winds, to choppy boat wakes with aplomb. So far, I'm really happy with it and can't wait to get out in it again.

I'd definitely recommend it! :victory:

And now some pics:

In this photo you can see the "tunnel hull" which gives it its stability:

You can see the front seat folded down just in front of my feet here. When in tandem mode, my seat would be much more rearward and there'd be a lot more space between my feet and the front seat:

Kayakers with that boat have nothing but love for it, I bet you did enjoy that first day.

It looks like it would track in the open water and does have plenty of storage for fishing and overnight trips.

If you rig it out, definitely post pics of the mods.

Ultimate 14.5

Great choice! Especially for fishing. I spent this winter in FL and used a couple of kayak flyfishing guides who use them. They loved them as well.

I just ordered an Ultimate 12 Tegris. Much lighter at 29lbs without the seat for my old shoulders to hoist on top of my truck. Can't wait to get it in and try it out.

FYI while I was in FL, I managed to try several out including the Ultimate 12, 14.5 and 16, Tarpon 12 and 14, Redfish 12, Ocean Kayak 12 or 13 and something else (gray hair hides it from me). Anyway, for my purposes of small CO lakes and nothing more than class I rivers it should be perfect. I even think I can climb up on my cabover camper with it.

Enjoy!
