Chuck the fiance, beefup the suspension a bit and mount a Northstar TC 650. Seriously though, you've got a rare vehicle in good repair. A nice popup on the back would please your fiance to no end.

I agree!!! Think of how much money you'll save chucking the fiance and keeping the truck...:smiley_drive: I'm joking:coffeedrink:

Just to let all you guys know:

a fiance is a man who is engaged to be married. A fiancee is a woman who is engaged to be married.

I would keep the truck and never make her drive it if she doesn't want to. If you keep it just suck it up and pay for fuel to drive your own.

My wife has had her 94 Toyota ex. cab 4x4 4 cyl. 5 sp. for 17 years, For years I've been wanting to get rid of it for something more comfortable but she is happy with it so it is staying put until she is ready for something else.

I just got rid of a 2000 silverado 2wd ex.cab and bought a 2002 f350 ex. cab 4x4 powerstroke, she didn't/ doesn't want to drive either truck and thats fine, I would rather pay more in fuel to drive my truck than drive hers.

That truck is awesome. I love my 5 speed dakota but I'd kill to have a diesel. I'd keep it and maybe get a cheap gas sipper to drive if you need to go out of town... You could buy something reliable for a few grand and just put minimal insurance on it for when you need it, and drive your truck otherwise.

I would keep the truck, and try to reach a compromise with my better half. No sense in getting rid of a reliable truck that you obviously like that will do everything you want it too.

The truck is Awesome! Buy a used ECHO for a daily driver, leave her car alone.

My friend has that truck with an automatic and it gets the same milage as my Tacoma.

Nope :( different bolt pattern. I believe they are very similar to the Ford style ZF6 which is a brute.

do they have removable bell houseings???? if not im sure someone out there makes an adapter, id really like to have a 6 speed just to say i have one, at the moment i have the nv3500 on a stock 5.7 vortec, i didnt really know anything about the nv3500 when i bought it and put it in, then later found out they were crap, so im looking for a 4500 to throw in, but not the granny model

Hi all. First off I have been browsing this site for a couple weeks now and just wanted to tell everyone how great it is. I cant believe it took me this long to find it. Anyways I am trying to decide on whether or not i should get a new vehicle. I currently have a 2002 chevy 2500hd 4x4 Duramax/ 6sp manual. It has 137k on it and runs perfect. My options are to do some mods to my current truck or sell it and get something else to play with. The reason it came up is because my fiance hates to drive my truck when we switch cars because its a manual and I have the opp to sell it for more than double what I owe. If I sell it I am looking for either a xj or a disco. Here is a little about myself and what I use the truck for currently. Im 26 and my fiance and i love the outdoors. The truck is my DD but we also camp, hike, kayak, canoe, spelunking, boat, and fish. We also do some mild exploration/travel mostly exploring the mid west looking for scenic new places to camp. I need my vehicle to be able to carry my canoe or 2 kayaks, pull a boat/trailer, load with gear and carry a dog or 2...we have 4(3 small and one large). Right now when we camp we either put up a tent or throw a futon mattress in the bed. Either way i would like to get a RTT or build storage compartments with a sleep platform. Any input would be great. Im having a horrible time making a decision any opinions would really help. Here is the truck (hope i do this right)

I owned an XJ for 13 years. I loved the vehicle, but is suffered in payload. If you are planning on hauling gear/boats and pulling any kind of a trailer, you will hate it after your first trip. Even with lower gears and the five speed that I had, it could barely be considered marginal for highway trips. That said I also drive like a granny. I have a good friend that owned an LR, and he said the V8 got poor mileage and pulled live a tired V6. With the amount of gear you sound like you want to have, get a pop up camper and hit the road. Your Duramax is the answer. She will learn to love the convenience of the larger truck. Maybe if there are a few back roads in the plans buy her the smaller SUV and have both.

I think uhauler summed it up well. If you are thinking about cost versus capability, the few times you "need" to drive her car out of town, just budget a little more for fuel that week, and take your truck! The mileage you are getting out of that truck will never be matched by a Disco II, and probably not by an XJ either. You already have a great rig... Keep it, and stay out of the Honda!

Actually, this GM version of the ZF S6-650 has the typical Chevy V8 bellhousing that has been around for 57 years. There is no reason why this trans wouldn’t bolt behind any GM engine outside of the old BOP engines.

I stand corrected. I should have known better being that they came behind the 8.1's as well. DOH! :snorkel:

Thanks for all the input. I think we decided just last evening to keep the truck. We are just going to do some more practice driving out in the country to get her more comfortable. I am going to start looking for camper and build a roof rack along with some other things. Hopefully i can start a build thread soon. Thanks again everyone.
