Ive already posted in the communications thread, time to introduce blacknmuddy.

Had not discovered this website till the other day, since then Ive been on Socaltundras and tundrasolutions. Ive been prepping (very slowly) my 02 Tundra 2W (plan on converting to 4x4 when the funds are available) for about a year and a half now for whatever will come my way. Only major modifications are my front end Camburg coilovers and upper control arms, on 285/75/16's with a 16x8 teflon coated wheel.

Currently waiting for my Yaesu FT-7800 in the mail so i can install it.
Also waiting to install my Hi-lift, just not sure where i want it. I may end up putting a safari rack uptop after I get a camper shell installed.

Wish I had a smaller rig like an exterra or FJ cruiser, but ill deal with what i got for the time being. :safari-rig:

Wise choice... Save the money for experiences.

My first three years of desert exploration was in a 2wd Amigo. I learned A LOT about line selection and recovery in that truck :)

Oh for sure, 2WD can handle a lot of obstacles if you know what your doing, with a little momentum and the right path your good to go. Although I've come to a dead stop on a lot of trails where 2WD just wouldn't cut it. having to turn around and go back home is my main problem, hate doin that.

Welcome! The Xterra and FJ's are excellent choices. I am not sure of the payload capacities on either though, but that would play a pick in the final decision.

yeah, Ill probobly stick with my tundra till it dies (if ever) , or get either of the two as a second vehicle.
So the tundra is what ill be using and modifying for many more years to come.

I got to spend some time with a Tundra. If it had been a 4wd, I would have bought it from my brother. I love the engine and transmission, which is the same as the one in my Land Cruiser.

I miss having a bed sometimes:( Although, I can get a decent amount of stuff in the LC.

Yeah another Tundra! Good sense and careful driving will go a long way. Add a locker and you can go a bit farther, but you'll probably need more good sense. 4wd is not the end all to exploration, it can make some things easier, but in the end its also more to break, fix and maintain. Welcome
