GULP! Rejuvenation is expensive!
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) -
re·ju·ve·nate
–verb (used with object)
1. to make young again; restore to youthful vigor, appearance, etc.: That vacation has certainly rejuvenated him.
2. to restore to a former state; make fresh or new again: to rejuvenate an old sofa.
An update on rejuvenation...
3. to spend large quantities of material resources ($) in a short time to spend much additional time removing, replacing, repacking, reshimming, resetting, refilling and realigning a given vehicle and/or components thereof.
I just ordered enough parts to address most of the "baseline" concerns...
Front axle reseal from hub to hub, rebuild birfields, replace trunion bearings and shim as needed
Rear axle seals
Pinion seals front, rear, t-case flange
All fluids
Rodney flush transmission, clean screen, replace kickdown cable
Adjust valves, replace VC gasket
Oil pan gasket, clean screen
V-belts (3)
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV, air filter, oil filter, O2 sensors, fuel filter
Driver's door window runs
All but the fluids are Toyota...I only want to have to do this once, so I spent a little more. Not a lot more, though. I was suprised how close many of the Toyota OEM parts were pricewise to quality aftermarket. Bear in mind I did not upgrade anything, just stock parts are being used in round one.
That should keep me busy for a while. Did I miss anything? I'm going to inspect more closely the coolant-filled hoses once the belts and all are out of the way, and the brakes once the wheels are off. If I need front brakes, I may upgrade to the 4Runner calipers. I'll see when I get there.
TREs I'm undecided on. I may get just the ends, but I'm not sure. I want to replace them with something, and would like to field suggestions from those "in the know." At this point, I do not intend to lift the truck at all, and I will probably never lift it more than 2-1/2 inches.
I plan to replace the oil galley plug, but that is incidental at this point. I have what I need for that job, except the replacement plug. An auxiliary transmission cooler will also be installed. Any favorites?
Thanks again for the support...I'm learning constantly about the truck. It never seems to end, as there is SO much information out there. It becomes overwhelming, at times. There is much temptation to go overboard with it, too.
God Bless,
Bob
