New to me Rig, '06 F350

The best thing I did to my '06 F350 was put some bigger rubber on it. It rode like a piece of wood with the load range E 265/70R17's. I put 315/70R17 Hankook MT's (Load Range D but still rated over 3000# per) and ran them at 50psi. It rode great, performed great on road and off, and looked awesome. They fit with all standard suspension parts... I did not even have to adjust the steering stops.

I miss this truck the most! It went everywhere, and carried everything. Right up until I sheared the front Dana 60 pinion clean off. (6.0L diesel, 4wd low, turbo spooled up with both front wheels bound... that was the end of that.)

Every tire I have looked at is E range.

Does anyone know if there is a market for the factory 18's? I dont want to take years to sell them.

I think most of the bigger 18" sizes are going to be E rated. You may have to step down to a 17 for some additional options.

That being said, I almost moved up to 18s to run 285/75R18 Toyo MTs... what a great size (35x11).

35x11 sounds sweet, would that fit with the factory suspension?

They'll likely fit as long as you don't put a plow back on. I'm upgrading to 290/75 r17 (33.5") after a leveling kit.

You might need to regear with a 5.4L for 35" tires. 4.10's are kinda lame for that combo. 4.56 would be my choice. If you already have 4.30, then I'd try them.

I Had the 315/70r17's (35x12.5) on mine with no rubbing issues at any articulation or steering position. The 285/75R18s should fit just fine, even on factory wheels.

5.4 would have liked a diesel but I could justify the additional cost

This engine is fine. Will work well and overall they are great trucks. One thing on the bigger tires, it will kill the ball joints. Be prepared for that. Also check the steering box and lines. They tend to go to crap after 100k or so.

If it was a 6.0 diesel, I would've told you to take it back.

I really liked my 6.0 diesel... Granted I only had it for about 35k miles but the only issue I had was the fuel injector control module. One day the truck didnt want to start, it took about 5 minutes to nurture it into firing up and then it filled the whole parking lot with a cloud of black smoke. I ordered a heavy duty reman FICM, had it overnighted to my hotel in Boulder CO for about $400 total and installed it in the parking lot. No other problems with the engine.

I did go through all 4 ball joints, both front axle UJ's, and then sheared the front pinion as noted earlier.

I have noticed a few of the power steering lines look pretty rusty

I run a 5.4 with 3:73 and 35-12.5-16 empty its not bad loaded I want 4.56 or 4.88 gears.

mine has the 3.73 limited slip. I would like something in the 4.10 range, Id have to remember how to install a ring and pinion. Ive been a mechanic for european cars for years so this is a bit new. I have to dust off the standard size tools.

Does anyone have experience with leveling this truck? Im seeing everything from 1.5" spacers to full coil kits. Tomorrow I will measure how the truck is sitting right now

Once you decide on tires... 33s or 35s, you can set up the suspension to fit them. You should be good off road, it not being a long crew cab, and having the coil front end. No experience with coil trucks, but check the Powerstroke forums. Same suspension, different engine, and lots of those guys lift and mod their trucks. I think Icon is a popular set up for the newer trucks. For gears, go with a 4.10 with 33s or a 4.56 with 35s to get the most if you run it loaded, pull, or off road it. When I had a gasser it was on 35s with 4.56 gears, perfect multipurpose combo.
