OD Green or Desert Sand??

Loved my Desert Tan K5 with blackout hood. http://coloradok5.com/stcreview.shtml

I didn't wash it for a year and you really couldn't see the dirt.

I am seriously considering a color change for my Red 4Runner because of the shot paint.

There is a down side. All the Flat rattle can paint is really close to being a primer and primers are permeable. I was having issues where I has sanded to steel, primed with gray primer and then painted with Krylon "Khaki" that I was getting rust after about a year. I also had paint compatibility issues. The factory paint was fine but the primers where causing wrinkles in the paint.

If you are going with a flat paint make sure anywhere you had bare metal is covered with a good automotive paint that is fully cured before painting with the flat.

If at all possible get the real deal. Flat rattle can paints is very hard to get a smooth coat.

This go around I think I am going with a tan epoxy paint and not a flat if I change colors becasue of the rust through issue I saw. I'm going to shoot it properly as well or pay Macco to shoot it.

I was actually thinking of maybe doing a semi gloss type finish becuase of the rust and dirt issue. I like the way the flat looks the best but I think the semi gloss would hold up better. What kind of epoxy are you using?

While I really like the tan, I think the green will work better with your dark bit around the lower half. If the dark bit was smaller then I'd go for the tan.

Hard call seeing as they're two of the three best colors ever (white being my third favorite). IMO I'd go with Tan. Why? Because as a color to live with every day, Tan is a little less austentatious (as in it draws less atention from the average joe). That's just my .02 plus you hardly ever see newer rigs much less rigs in N.America painted tan. I LOVE the color adn have always been jealous of the guy with the Tan Taco. OD green is killer but in the end I'd go tan. If I ever repaint my Runner, and it's a Toyota so I may have to, I will go tan.

-edit- how many times can I say Tan in a sentence... tan

I'm hoping to spray mine this weekend, as long as the weather holds out.

This is a Krylon Desert Tan rattle can job. It is ~1 year old in this photo with ~25 days of off road. It sees a lot of heavy brush and mud and has held up very well. It sleeps in the garage so I'm not sure how much weathering you'd see from sun and rain. I painted over a good, intact, factory paint.
