Well then. The sat phone weighs more than the ham radio doesn't it. Correct. I tossed the sat phone. Who do I see about my fully approved sticker?:victory:

I think there is a seminar you have to attend at one of the Overland Expo (that's Expo, NOT ExPo, two totally different um...expos...) locations. I believe the next available opening is at the 2066 Overland Expo at Olympus Mons.

Hmmm, well ok. I have to start saving for a set or two of new tires to make that one :)

All kidding aside, dwh, would you take a look at my post #11? Ignore the references to a solenoid, I am going with a ACR. I would appreciate your comments on that approach to trailer battery charging.

Find the wire that runs from the truck 7-pin to the factory isolator (ignition controlled), and unhook that wire from the factory isolator and hook it to the other side of the ACR.*

This is going to be a huge big deal to do plus I am sadly learning that Toyota has cheapened that circuit out by running something less than 10ga wire. I am not crazy about modding the the OEM wiring and running a new circuit to rear comes with its own problems. I can live with the marginally ok OEM 7 pin circuit when going down the road, its while camped I would want to charge the TR battery. Thus the post #11 scheme.

The pig tail/trailer extender will be, if it works, the best for me.

Also buy a decent battery charger if you don't already have one, so you can charge up the trailer at home, and if the truck is connected, top it off as well. Won't matter whether you hook the charger to the trailer battery or the truck battery, since the ACR will tie them when it sees charge voltage.

I have one, and charging is actually easier done now by TV nose to nose with the TR rather than the TV hooked to the TR. Although charging is done individually.

Thanks

So, turn the truck around and plug the trailer into the front of the truck?

Sure, whatever works.

Also, wouldn't matter if they used phone wire for the factory 7 pin wire, it could handle the 5a from that solar panel.
