Outside Van (builder)

Yeah, a lot of people buy the long wheelbase van just to get enough room to stretch out. If you're 6 feet tall, the kickout approach works well for the shorter wheelbase model.

I've never seen a kickout that included a window. A fan in the ceiling would address that concern for urban camping. Opening the back door would work in the backcountry, so long as there's little chance of an encounter with a bear.

You're right, oustide van only works on sprinter chassis now. But luckily they share parts or plans with another company in the area called Van Specialties. http://www.vanspecialties.com/ VS has rave reviews on the sportsmobile forum as well as having been around for 40 years doing custom builds. They will work on whatever rig ya got!

As another hinted earlier, Van Specialties in Portland has close ties with Outside Vans up the Gorge.
Just one example of sky's the limit interiors from VS (All van types) that are similar to what OSV (focus on Sprinter) will do for a client...

If there is a _Van2_... i most likely will go back to Rob of Van Specialties. They do great work IMO!

2014 Sprinter 2500 Cargo Van conversion

Just took delivery of our Van Specialties conversion of a Sprinter Cargo Van. The 2 solar panels on the roof are churning out 6.9 aH, enough to keep up with the Domestic Fridge, fantastic fan and LED lights and music....Drove some 1300 miles the first 2 days.....avg fuel consumption out of the little diesel is 23.8 mpg with some headwinds. The extra sound dampening makes for a great nights sleep, regardless of where we are. So far very pleased. If you haven't checked out Van Specialties, you should. Our build is somewhat utility as we wanted to be able to store bikes under the platform bed, and use one of the first bed panels as dropdown bench seat supported by the webasto heater enclosure and wheel well box. Also wanted to keep the utility of the van for larger cargo by removing the bed panels all together.

Holds 20 gals water, has Diesel Webasto Heat, rear shower connect, 2000 watt inverter, two additional AGM house batteries, thumping sound system incl subwoofer under passenger swivel seat, solar and roof racks and One powered roof fan and one passive. The d-rings on ceiling support SUP and carry three Mountain Bikes under bed. Utility 1st.

Solar and LED lighting

Cant say enough of how well the 200 watts of solar on the roof is doing keeping up with the house batteries. I can leave the Domestic Fridge on without ever a worry of running down the batteries. The high output Surface Mount Galley LED is great and efficient. Under bed storage LED's as well as Top outward facing High Output LED's make for great loading/unloading at night from the rear doors. My wife laughed at first with the red under cabinet lighting, but it is much easier on the eyes transitioning from inside the van to outdoor night vision than when we have the overhead bright white LED's on. We are making Bed/Bench Cushions this week out of 4" thick HR 35 foam and wrapping them in Vinyl. Dog hair doesn't stick, and they will be easy to clean. On top we will roll out a one piece 2" thick memory foam that we bought from IKEA (king sized that we cut down to 68" wide by 79" long). Heading out to Arches N.P. once the cushions are snapped onto the bed panels. Going to be hot, but the nights are awesome.
