My 7 year old paddling her own small cockpit boat on the lake for the first time today! She's been paddling a Jackson Min-tripper for a couple of seasons, but we finally bought her a "real kayak" (her words). After she proved she could do a wet exit, she was off to the races in her little Loon 8'6. She was surprisingly quick and handled herself quite well. She was almost as proud of herself as her mother and I were!:wings:

A shot of my wife yesterday as we tried to steal a few moments before the storm let loose:

What's wrong with paddling in shorts or a bathing suit? I guess you're paddling in colder waters than we are. We mainly paddle in MS- favorite local river is the Okatoma. No bears, no gators there (Closer to N.O. yes but they're not really an issue. They do make you a bit more careful about not turning over though!). Snakes are an issue though, mainly water moccasins. Drunks on the river (or on the road home) are probably the biggest threat (well, some of my paddling partners have tried to drown me but that's another story!).
If its too cold to paddle where you are get in the truck and head south. I did black creek in the dead of winter once in a jogging jacket...

I'd rather have the brown bears than the alligators. And it has been a while since anyone I know paddled in shorts and a bathing suit.

Looks like fun

Funny because we're planning a paddle down the northern section of the Suwanee River and we've been waiting all year so the temps would cool down and we'd actually be able to put pants and long sleeve shirts on so we wouldn't be bothered by the mosquitoes (hummingbird sized)

Shorts and a bathing suit is the required paddling gear all but 2 months out of the year :victory:

Hi, here are some photos how we canoe in Czech rep. Now I found that I don't have any water photos since 08. I have to ask my friends to give them... :ylsmoke:

Czech rivers aren't so wild and deep and off course you must know your canoe and your skills. I personally canoe since my 11 so for almost 20 years and there was only one year I wasn't on the river...
