Dragging up an old thread.....

Pat, did you ever end up painting your case?
If so, how'd it turn out?

I never ended up doing it, but now that I've got a few to fool around with, I'm going to try it with one that we just keep on the boat. That's exactly what I was thinking with the Krylon Plastic Paint

I'll but a can of flat white when we get home and try it on my Pelican 1500. I'll be sure to post up some photos of before and after and then again after we use it a few times out on the water to see how it holds up

Sorry I havent followed up with this. Life sort of got in the way. Thanks for the reminder

So I finally remembered about doing this. Sorry it took so long. Only threw a few coats of Rustoleum Plastic Spraypaint Primer on to see how it would hold up

This is only primer, but it's not all that bad looking. This Pelican 1500 was beat up pretty bad to begin with having a ton of scratches in the shell. We'll be heading out next week on the boat for multiple days of shooting, so I'll drag this along and see how the paint holds up.

I also only painted the lid of the box since the bottom is always sitting flat on the boat, and the lid was what I worried about keeping cool

I'll have to pick up a digital thermometer and see if it makes a difference between the box that is painted and the box that isnt

Looks good. Keep us posted on how well it holds up. I got a tan case for my laptop because I was worried about the case heating up.

Nicely done, Pat. Looking forward to your report as I have a beat-up yellow Pelican I'd like to try this on.

What a small world... I <3 boobies, too! :sombrero:

OK Pat, how'd it work? Did you take on the boat, or are you in the UP again?

Hey Dave, I'm still home in Cedar Key. We've taken it out a few times and the one thing I've noticed is I need to put another coat of normal paint on it. The primer that I put on it stays somewhat soft, I'm guessing to grab ahold of the final paint you're supposed to put over it.

It's still holding up good, and even Cindy mentioned how much cooler the top of the case felt compared to even our tan Pelican Box. Compared to the black box, it's night and day cooler.

I'm going to grab another can of white spray paint that isnt primer and see if it hardens more than just the primer alone

I'll be sure to report back

I'm starting work on a special install of some delicate equipment which lives in some modified pelicans. A big concern was heat in the black boxes, so we tested it. Average 110° day here in Phoenix, outside on the concrete, next to the parking lot. Outside of the box peaked in the low 140° while the inside temp only got to like 102°. This was in about 4 hours of the afternoon and the case was previously in the warehouse so probably had a room temp in the low 80's. I believe it was empty with just the top and bottom foam in. I was surprised all around. Of course there are about a million different variables, so this is a very general set of findings.
