Receiver tube mocked up. This tube is BEEFY. Unfortunately it can't tie into the frame in the back as it's shown, I'll need to put another piece of steel on top of the receiver to tie it into the upper frame as the M101's have a "lower" frame and an "upper" frame at different elevations which allowed the military to fold the trailers up when shipping them.

Has anyone made a piece to fit in-between the receiver tube and the frame on either side to "offset" the angle that the trailer frame makes when it meets the receiver tube?

I just used 3"x 1/4" flat bar. Pics are at the end of my build thread. Will do it a little different the next time and put the flat bar/gusset on the back side of the front cross member then make one of these from plate (grid = 1") to weld on front.

You will probably have to add 1/8" to each side of that 2.5" tubing. I used 3" and it was a good fit. It took some time to get the draw bar lined up because it is not really touching anything.

Tongue tacked in place. Decided not to go all the way back with the receiver tube. The original design for these trailers had all of the connection points near the front, so that's how I'll keep it. Going to add some plate/gusseting to make it stronger and have professional welders finish it up. Bought a pintle ring to hold me over until I place an order for a Max Coupler. Not sure if the 48" long safety cables I got will work in their original location - they connect to the 4Runner but are pretty taught.



Also over-tightened the screws on the tail lights and cracked a housing :oops: so now I'm either buying new OE lights for the trailer or going with a recessed LED set-up in the rear of the frame.

Thanks. It's a perfectly snug fit at the tip of the a-frame. I will still have the welders run a bead where the frame meets the tube. Should take them all of a minute and provide a little extra stability.

Well deciding to go back to grad school has taken some time away from the trailer. Got the tongue welded up and working with a buddy who knows solidworks to design a lid for the trailer. Needs to be 6" tall to clear the Pelican cooler I got and we are trying to make it slide open so I can access the trailer with the RTT rack in the lowered position.

SELLING TRAILER

Wife and I are looking into a home purchase so unfortunately this project will need to go.

$2000 would get you the trailer as it sits - rolls great, brakes are not hooked up yet.

Trailer summary - 1984 M101A2, Dexter 5200lb axle w. electric brakes, 12v lights hooked up with 7 way adapter in junction box, tongue modified with 2" receiver tube, brand new trailer wheels and 215/85/16LT E rated Cooper AT3's. Maybe 3, yes 3, miles on the axle/tires.

AND

All of the extras I was going to eventually put into the trailer and I have already accumulated including but not limited to:

Atwood gas stove, electrical wire, connectors, brake wire, pintle hitch and heavy duty curt receiver, etc.
