Microsoft has released Photosynth, a free app for iPhone. Photosynth simplifies the process of stitching together still images to create panoramas. The result can be uploaded to the Photosynth website for sharing. The link to your pano can be posted to Facebook as well.
One cool feature is sharing panoramas tagged with GPS information. These can be linked to a Bing map to allow viewers to better understand where the panorama was created.
The process of stitching together the original photos can take a few minutes using the Photosynth app on the iPhone. You can delay this process until a convenient time. I think you may be able to off-load the photos for processing on a desktop machine, too.
The Photosynth website is http://www.photosynth.net/
To create a Photosynth account, you need a Microsoft Windows Live ID. (There's no charge to create one).
Here's a video that shows Photosynth in action.
