Seems fitting my first post here covers my 2 passions - Jeep and MTB. The XJ has evolved a bit since this photo, but the bike remains the same: simple.

Needed a rack that could fit the downhill bikes when the Jeep was off road and left the receiver hitch free for the trailer... built this...

It's shuttled 2 bikes up Poison Spider Mesa with no issues...

Nice.

Is that setup you built basically a tire swing gate style mount for the bikes? If so you have any extra detailed pics of how exactly you did the bike mounting?

Thanks

The mount works as well as the interface attachment to the basket. I rigged one of my Thule fork mounts to the rear of the basket. I use a ski strap to secure the rear wheel to the ladder on my back door. It works well except that to access the back of the truck I have to remove the bike to open the door. I use this setup when I don't want the rear overhang compromised by the receiver mount or am hauling my creek boat in the Trasharoo.

Kind of a late response, just saw your post.

Thanks for the info!

I have two ways of transporting my bikes in my 80 series; one is on the rack when I have the truck full or passengers (no pic right now) and the second is below, which is easier to put it in and out and also allows me to lock it up.

My setup I am traveling with for two months right now. I revised the fork mount setup by having a proper adapter made for the rear of the basket.
