Playing in the snow with the new MaxTrax

This past week a small group of friends and I went into the hills south of Prescott for some snow fun.

Each winter the team at Overland Journal and Expeditions West schedules a snow day on the trail. This ultimately becomes a "stuck fest", which is kind of the point. The great benefit of driving in the snow is that is keeps our slick surface driving skills sharp while doing no damage to the trails. It also allows us to do a bunch of winching and testing new recovery gear. This year was no exception and we brought along the new version of the MaxTrax for some abuse.

I took a ton of photos and shot some video for fun.

Looks like fun Scott and man that Power Waggy is the hot ticket... but one slight typo in your report.. title should read "PRESKITT STYLE" :D

Specifically which Go Pro do you guys have? I have on of the older versions and the video quality of yours is much better.

Great vid!

Fortunately or not, it depends, I have yet to use my Max Trax.

Did they re-design the Max Trax?

That Power Wagon is a beast!

They just redesigned the MaxTrax, but there is no notable change in the way it performs. It nests better now and fits on an EU pallet better. It can also be daisy-chained and it appears they will perform better in bridging. All nice improvements for usability, but the old units work just as well when on the ground.

Oh excellent! That is definitely an improvement then. Now, just to get them in black or green. The orange (easier to find in the muck) looks like a first responder's trauma stretcher to some people. Trust me, poeple have asked why I have them in my vehicle and when I explain their real purpose I gets looks of bewilderment. I am still trying to figure out a way to store them in a TJ without the need of a roof rack.

Excelsior!
I'd be interested in a side-by-side traction test with the ARB Sand Tracks in snow, sand and mud. I'm not much in need of bridging ability so a lower price and easy storage are attractive attributes.

Not being a smart-aleck here, but wouldn't a can of Krylon solve that problem?

Undoubtedly it would need a touch-up after use, but shooting them black or green may be a low-$ solution.
