RE legality of disposing of human waste in a dumpster:
I have been under the opposite impression, but really do not know, so do you have a reference to point to?

I'm afraid I can't prove my statement. I read a lot of forums etc. and the "general" consensus was that it's legal, but some posters also said it could vary by town or state. But logically, it seems like if you can dispose of cat and dog waste at the dump, then you could do the same with human waste, especially in small quantities. Maybe others can comment on this.

EDIT: This guy called a lot of different state and federal agencies to get an answer to this question and he concluded that it's OK to place human waste in the trash: https://www.livesmallridefree.com/blog/where-to-responsibly-empty-your-composting-toilet

The argument I see most often is that dirty diapers are placed in the trash.

If you are considering chemical toilets, I suggest you consider composting toilets as well.

I finally built a 5-gallon bucket composting toilet, after living with a chemical toilet in our camper for years, the difference is amazing.
No mess, no chemicals, and essentially no odor.

All it is is a 5-galloin bucket with a simple auger, urine diverter, and pee jug.
It takes about a gallon and a half of peat moss to start, and from there you have weeks and weeks of service life before having to dump.
The urine bottle must be dumped daily or every other day, but that's super simple.

If you have any questions or would like me to post up some more info let me know.

Note that that link regards emptying the contents of a composting toilet. A commercial wag bag and baby diapers both contain substances to help render the human waste immobile and somewhat inert.

I submit you'll have a hard time getting any municipality to commit to a policy on dumping a home-made "wag" bag full of human waste. Do whatever you feel is right, but as with all things, be prepared for the consequences.

I've seen the reference a few times though, specifically requesting double bagged, and disposed of with regular household waste.
Funny though, pretty much everywhere encourages dog owners to bag (single) dog poo and toss in the garbage.

Also, I imagine composting toilets simply are not mainstream enough for waste management companies to have carved out specific requirements yet.

But the idea behind a composting toilet is important. Keep urine and solid waste separate, and you do not have sewage. Sewage is bad news...

Human waste is more dangerous to humans (disease-wise) than animal waste....could be why?

Perhaps... But from a waste management standpoint, there is no difference. (poop is poop)
And everything is requested.... I've yet to see any actual thing required from a waste management company.

Feds have things spelled out pretty well, for public lands. But municipal? Not so much.
