Portable Rotisseri Cooking

Here is an unique, lightweight portable cooker that I created that has a battery powered rotisseri attachment that I am using to slow cook (two hours) chicken that was stuffed with rosemary and heavily seasoned with red pepper and garlic powder and basted with honey for the last 30 minutes!! It was delicious but it works even better on a 5-6 lb. tri-tip roast, basted with terriaki and cooked with a meat thermometer to medium rare perfection!!

The cooker was set over my ground fire that used oak and walnut. I also cooked (in foil) a potato, corn and zuccini. The meal was served with ginger peach tea and a small shrimp, avocado and hearts of palm salad. Desert was homemade (hand-cranked) ice cream with fresh blackberries- a meal fit for a king!

NICE!!!!!

Here's one i did. (not showing the motor in this pic) I ran my standard home bbq rotisserie to the inverter and it worked great. This is Thanksgiving 2007 out in the field and that's a small turkey on the spit. It was a last minute deal so thats why its kind of silly looking.. the hardest part was controlling the fire and having different levels for the spit to ride on. All in all it came out great but took forever.

Any chance of seeing some close up detail pictures of the lightweight portable rotisserie cooker that you created? Maybe taken in daylight?

I have a vertical electric rotisserie at home and use it all the time. It would be nice to have a rotisserie for the trail.

Thanks!

I bought a new BBQ from home depot last summer and it came with a rotisserie unit, it plugs into house 120v, but if you run a converter it would work perfectly in the bush.

Similar to this:http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...3&productId=100530724&N=10000003+90401+501715

You would just have to rig up something to hold the ends of the rod.

portable rotisseri cooker & chuck box

Here are some better images of my rotisseri cooker. This is one of 12 different configurations that can be achieved with this patented cooking system. By the removal and substitution of certain parts, this cooking system will grill, bake, fry, deep fry, steam, smoke, rotisseri, boil, and poach, some of these operations can be performed simultaniously. Wood, charcol, and propane can be used. The cool thing is that it lightweight, folds flat and stores in a bag. Pretty cool eh?

I have not attempted to manufacture and market this, yet. Perhaps this site will generate enough interest that I will do so.

NEWS FLASH- I HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO UPLOAD IMAGES TO DIFFERENT STREAMS ON THIS SITE, SOME WORK, MOST DON'T, I AM SICK OF WASTING MY TIME! EVEN AFTER SHRINKING IMAGES DOWN TO THE SIZE OF POSTAGE STAMPS, THE FILES ARE TOO LARGE. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED, I CAN EMAIL IMAGES DIRECTLY TO YOU.

I have also attached an image of my 'Expedition Kitchen'. this is an exceptional self contained watertight chuck box that I spent years developing. It utilizes a modified Pelican 1650 case and effectively serves as portable gear and food storage as well as a stable platform for food prep/cooking/serving/dining. It can be transported to remote sites, set up quickly to provide an elevated work platform for other field applications like storage and service of equipment, administering medicine, etc.

More information on the construction and features of this kitchen can be seen at:

There is also a stream under camping gear where this and other kitchens are being discussed.

An Aussie rotisserie - a funny name (Auspit) but they do know their stuff down under.

Saw it at the recent Outdoor Retailer - will report on it when we get our hands on one.
