Portland to Prescott on a Ural Solo

FWIW, since they don't take reservations at Pastini's, and they tend to get crowded around 6:30, I'll be getting there a little early, so Chris, Scott and/or Andy, check around when you arrive and you needn't wait until 6:30. I'll be wearing my dress ex-Officio shirt, being too polite to wear my even-more-clichéd EarthRoamer ball cap indoors. (And it'll help ensure we don't have mosquitoes at our table. ;) )

Sounds great. We'll keep an eye out for you, Mike.

FYI, this is me, and ironically, I'm actually wearing this shirt and khakis. I may or may not be posing in front of my Suzuki in the parking lot. Please, no autographs. :D

Let's be good overlanders and complete the daily inspection. . .

Turn signals - ummm, no
Headlight - ummm, not unless absolutely necessary
Battery - not really. But it does keep just enough voltage to kick start.
Mirror - That is what I have hands for
Speedo - so yesterday
License plate - Its in my backpack, does that count?
Brake light - Fixed that
Starter - right leg
Fuel indicator - overrated
Brakes - present

Running - hell yeah!

Southward. . .

Lots of good hills for bump starting in Grants Pass. Are you allowed to fuel your own cycle in Oregon or is it verboten like cars?

Todd Z.

You get to fill your own tank - but someone who is properly trained has to take the nozzle out of the cradle & hand it to you. Because, you know, that's a complicated process.

(at least that was the deal in 2008 when we did the TAT).

To avoid the vast array of chain restaurants Scott has seen before, let's propose 6:30 pm at Pastini's at Bridgeport:

Bridgeport Village Mall
7307 SW Bridgeport Rd B-105, Tigard, OR

(503) 718-2300

It's immediately west of I-5 at Exit 290.

-- Take Exit 290 for Lower Boone's Ferry Road toward Durham.

-- Turn right onto Lower Boone's Ferry Road

-- Curve right at the signal onto SW 72nd Avenue

-- Turn left after 0.1 mile to proceed along north edge of the Bridgeport Mall

-- Proceed left into the bowels of the mall. Park where you can in the lot you're passing through.

I'll be there for 6:30. Chime in ASAP if you are going to join us.

That's great, Scott. Beyond the camaraderie, it may prove more pleasant waiting until Thursday AM to hit the road.

Sadly I saw MikeHiscox's invite a bit late last night--once I got home at 730pm. :( I would have loved to have met up with you guys!

Interesting detail Scott, one of my long time friends/industry associates is Mike Levin, art director at ICON Motorsports(taller, leaner guy with darker hair). I spoke to him today and he mentioned he had helped get the bike going yesterday when you picked it up. Small world! They're all rooting for your adventure back to AZ. On knobbies it's going to be one heck of a trip. Looking forward to your updates.

It's still like that. I rode through parts of Oregon in July.
What?! Did you think we'd vote ourselves the right to get out of our cars in the rain to pump gas?

What's that? Most every gas station known to man has a whomping big canopy over it? Go away and don't confuse me with reason.

Makes me crazy, it does. But there've been referendums a half-dozen times since I got here to change the law to permit self-service, and each time it lost by a bigger margin. Nobody even tries any more. You know how you have a State Flower? We have a State Quirk. Come to Oregon and see beautiful Crater Lake and People Who Pump Your Gas.

Oh, dear. We should have heard from Scott by now. He was headed to Redding, CA, after lunch in Grants Pass . . . 178 miles.

Here's hoping he's having an appropriately-sized adventure.

I think I need a bigger truck!
Epic adventure... and that Quartermaster is just well, gnarly is all I can come up with at this point. Looks like a big Downhill Mountain Bike.
