This one will remain pretty stock as it's the Wife's daily driver/horse towing machine/kid hauler. 2005 K2500 LT with 6.0.

Sock puppet, what size tires are on it?

Hey Suburban peeps, looking for an 87-91 3/4 ton 4x4. Would love a more bare bones the better ex-government type rig if possible. Been searching diligently, and have had a couple leads...but figure you guys might be able to help too. Been driving old c10/c20's for years, and Toyotas. Sold my 4runner earlier in the year and jonesing for a new project truck, figure it's time for a Burb. Thanks!

Well in my area you can find them for 500.00. Of course the motor or the tranny or both are blown. If it runs, figure 2500.00 for a beat up truck, up to 5000.00 for a less beat up one. I’ve been looking.

I'd recommend searching craigslist in the southwest for a clean one if you're in some terrible place that salts roads. i agree with the above estimate. clean is 5-10k, runs is about 2500, and "its for sale" is about $500.

Picking up this 87 3/4 ton tomorrow morning. 4 speed. Bare bones/vinyl. Minimal rust. Runs ok. Needs some new tires. Pretty excited.
Had a nice 91 for about a year. It had some electrical gremlins that I didn’t want to deal with.

Build thread here or somewhere else?
Not yet, I'll make one when I have time to get it all compiled together. Billy Bones' threads on pirate4x4 and upstate4x4 were a ton of help. I didn't take as many photos as he did, but I'll try and detail hiccups I encountered.

Things change and sometimes it gets better;

Sold the 1500 for asking price. Was a lot of work but I made a few $$$.20181026_172453_resized.jpg This was when I finished it and it driving away. 20181027_181254_resized.jpg

Used the $$ from that to get a 1985 K20 diesel making my 6BT swap simple in calif, NO SMOG

Not perfect but it drives good for a 34 year old Sub. Doing a build thread, but on another site (PM) 20181106_114156_resized.jpg

So...didn't end up with a squarebody, but a sweet gmt400 came up local. 99 3/4t 4x4, 133k, 350/4l80E/g80 4.10 gears. Vinyl floors, bench seat, manual windows, barndoor fleet truck from AZ. Used to haul a soccer team for the first half of it's life, occasional driver/errand truck for one guy for the second half. Never really towed, pretty solid maintenance history Clean all around, needs a few little things and a good once over. Pretty stoked. Oh, and my kid got a Traxxas Slash 4x4 too...good day :)
I think I'm going to do a a little budget build thread on it....stay tuned. Keeping it very utilitarian...IMG_3092.JPG
