If you're looks no at a straight axle suburban, the newer the better IMO. 87-91 had TBI fuel injection, they didn't make a ton of power but it was an improvement over the carburetors. 90-91 suburbans came with 4L60E (1/2ton) and 4L80E (3/4ton) transmissions which are an improvement over the older TH700R4 and TH400s. Most of them came with NP241 transfer cases after 87 as well. It's an aluminum, chain driven case but it's got a good low range ratio (2.72:1) and its strong as long as you protect it.

A 90-91 3/4ton 4x4 is what I'd be looking for.

Right on! I appreciate the info, i would love to start with a 2500 4x4, hard to come by for sale here in upstate sc or surrounding area not completely beat to hell. I have thought about buying a 2wd and just converting down the road, those are much easier to come up with around here. From what ive heard the 2 to 4wd conversion isnt all that hard on these old square body trucks.

It's not too bad to convert these rigs. There are a few build threads over on CK5.com where guys have done just that.

Right on. I was thinking of doing the diy4x Beyond 52 for front hanger, the ord FUSH rear shackle set up, as well as ord engine cross member whenever find a suitable truck, fab a trans mount, with a small body lift to clear transfer case and such, just have to cut the hole in the floor for the shifter. Obviously find all necessary parts to go with as well. such as axles, trans transfer case, springs for all four corners, cross over steering, and from shock mount set up. SO the hunt is on for a clean truck to buy and build. Thinking of selling my 94 f150 project to acquire the suburban

That's almost exactly what I've got into my suburban. B52s, Fush kit, ORD springs, TNA crossmember, home made trans crossmember, etc... Check out my build thread.

Just a few picks of my 05 5.3 1500 4x4. It's pretty well stock. Although she has a nice little knock knock at the rear main area so it's first real upgrade will be a 6.0 hear In the near future.

A lot of these are from a recent trip to Durango, Silverton, Telluride area... the one on the back of the tow truck was when she showed me that old plastic radiator tanks like to crack at over 10,000 feet and 54 miles from a parts store... Thank you AAA :).

The inside shot is on the way to SeaWorld with most of the clan on board.. this is the trip where it received the nickname #LaOrca. My girls decided it looked like Shamu's sister. And thought it would be hilarious to come back out to find a big boy wale having its way with her...

Exactly... just the LT. I still have those wheels if ya want them :). I really do love it. It's been all over the place in the last few months. She treats me well. She's in need of an engine upgrade. But It's looking like that won't be long. Also hoping in the near future to get her up on 35s.

I know my wife thinks I'm weird that when we go to a foreign country I want to take pictures of the different vehicles that we don't see in the US. Am I the only "vehicle geek" that does this?

No. I definitely do this too.. my wife was a little annoyed when I was more interested in the Toyota Hi-Aces in Africa than I was in the wildlife..
