Speaking of lighting, one thing I really like about this truck is the approach lighting. It's only an annoyance when I'm walking past the truck with the key in my pocket, but otherwise I really appreciate it. We are going camping next month, so I wonder if I need a Faraday cage to keep the key in all night.

That's the 'wake up' setting. I disabled it in the features menu. My truck is parked right outside my office window so it was constantly going off since the key was so close. Plus it would do it while we were camping and annoy other campers in the evenings.

So, with FORscan you can also enable Silent Mode, which is a controlled by a slider in the vehicle settings. This not only removes the approach lighting, but also keeps it from triggering the exterior lights when you open a door. It also includes disabling the interior lighting and the IPC. The only thing that comes on is the center screen and the rear console ambient lighting (Why, I have no idea).

Not too much new to add. It has been a busy summer of sports for my boys. I did an auto-x in my daily driver Camry hybrid and more recently have been a little sidetracked by catching up some maintenance on my friend's Mustang, which I'm housing for him temporarily. 68k miles, full Maximum Motorsports suspension.

Back to my truck, I have my first long road trip coming up at the end of the month, so I'm excited about that. On the SmartCap, I had an issue with the latches popping open, even when locked. RSi customer service quickly sent me a new set, which were easy to replace. It's hard to explain the issue, but basically the red "catch" on the inside had too much angle, so the "tooth" was barely holding on, if it latched at all.

I also recently added a Husky bed mat.

The SmartCap has eight nut-certs in the top, which accept M8 x 1.25 (20mm) bolts. Smartcap sells a table that will mount up there.

Smartcap warns that if you use them to mount something of your own design, be sure that you don't buy bolts that are too long, or you can dent the outside surface.

I don't have the patience for fishing, but somehow my boys do. So, I needed a solution to carry our fishing poles when the bed was full of gear. I sourced some 36" aluminum bar stock (0.25" thick, 1.25" wide). Using the front and rear pairs of holes and some rubber washers, I mounted the bar stock to the holes (~24 13/16" spacing), each one offset from the other. Before doing that, I installed some countersunk 1/4-20 screws to mount each end of the Berkley fishing rod rack at a slight angle.

If I had to do it again, I would have bought wider bar stock to allow for a little more angle to each end of the rod rack. With that said, this turned out great.

We recently drove from Kentucky out to South Dakota, Nebraska, and back. The total trip was 7 days and a bit over 3000 miles. I left on a Friday, just after Noon, driving in Hurricane Helene rains until a few hours past St. Louis. I caught between 4 and 5 hours of sleep in the back seat just north of Council Bluffs, IA, and then picked wife and kids up at the Rapid City airport around 1:30pm the following day. Doing 87mph the whole way across SD made the vast state go by super quick and no headwind kept the trucks fuel economy in a reasonable range.

Prior to leaving, I added some PPF behind the rear wheels and cut out some window insulation for privacy while sleeping.

Patience pays off, I'm very happy with the truck!

A obligatory stop at Wall Drug since I was well ahead of schedule. I also stopped at one of the Minuteman Missile Sites.

The SmartCap provided plenty of room to just toss stuff in, so Tetris skills weren't required.

At Carhenge on the way to Lincoln, where we stayed a few days:

This is missing the first 30 or so miles of the trip. Considering the high speeds and how windy the plains are, I am very happy with this.
