Question about using a come-along with 2:1 rigging

Ah I see what you mean about the kernmantle. You know your stuff man and I will no doubt be coming to you if the need for rope arises.

So, a whoopie sling acts as an anchor point by running one end thru the loop and creating a choker?

Not quite. Think of 2 fixed eyes in synthetic rope, but one of the eyes tails isnt buried in the rope, it passes through and comes back out so you can adjust the overall length.

You would attach the fixed eye to an anchor point, lets say you tree strap. The adjustable eye would get attached to your come-a-long. As you start out the sling would be at its longest length. As you starting spooling in the rope on your come-along and reach the end, stop, pull it all back out and shorten up the whoopie sling. Then start working the come along again. Probabaly not making sense since I quite suck at explanations.

It would eliminate, for a short while, having to unhook the come-a-long and readjusting tree strap, or moving it altogether. Essentially giving you more useable length with the come-a-long.

Or you could get one of the Power-pullers. http://www.wyeth-scott.com/ These have the ability to carry 30 or 40' of line right on the drum.

Sherrill Tree used to have a video showing how one works. But here is a vid I did while I owned another business. The adjustable eye is attached to the ring af the hammock and the fixed eye is attached to my stand. The tail hanging down is part of the adjustable loop.

OK I get it. Well if you're able to come up with something for come-along users then I'd love to see it.
