I have a 2003 Xterra SE. 190000 miles. Do I need to do the rad trans conversion. My impression was no...it i on newer models (2005 and newer).

X2. No bypass necessary. However, you might want to consider upgrading your radiator to the 2-core unit used on the supercharged generation 1 Xterras. Its a direct replacement and offers better cooling, which is never a bad thing on the trail. I would venture a guess that after 10 years and almost 200,000 miles that unless coolant was always mixed with distilled water that there are now enough mineral deposits in your original factory radiator to have diminished cooling capacity from the day your rig was new. There is ample discussion on this modification on www.clubxterra.org.

Not necessary. Though maybe people install a auxiliary cooler to prolong the transmissions life when used hard. Offroading, towing produce a large amount of heat. The better you can cool it the better off you will be.
