Rail on rail subframe end treatment.

All,

I was looking at rail on rail subframe end treatments and came across a bunch of conflicting information.

Fuso does it this way:

Mack Trucks does it this way:

Australian government calls it out this way:

And my Haynes manual uses 1/3 of the height of the rail tapered for at least the the height of the rail back in length.

So, I am looking at the taper to cut in a rectangular tube and I planned to use the Australian method. My subframe will actually be on top of a subframe that exists on top of my main frame, so I still get quite a bit of load dispersal before the main frame sees anything. Also, I plan on having a HMWPE or similar layer between rails.

Thoughts?

I would go with your trucks manufacturer recommendations. At the end it doesn't matter what regulations are in Australia if you are in the USA.

I would if I could…. They don’t have a builders’ guide.

Hey what did you end up going with? Would you be able to share some photos of your sub frame? I am just being my build here.

Cheers!
