Railriders Extreme Adventure Pants

Anyone hear of Railriders before?
I am sure many have, but I just got a catalog in the mail yesterday, perhaps to one of the other places I shop online with.
Until I received the catalog, I had not heard of them before.

Many of their clothing has sunscreen factor of 30 built in, and also insect repellent.

They have some nice nylon pants.
A little expensive, but their ad sure beefs them up.
Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this pant model.

These pants are superbly tough and an improvement on thier Weather pants due to more pockets. You will not wear these things out, they are lightweight and comfortable.

Negatives? Sizing is very long, look at the 30" inseams if applicable. Noisy if thats a consideration. Zippers are the tiny, delicate things you expect on womens fashions. Belt loops very small, only fit "starbucks" fake nylon belts. If these limitations dont apply to you, great. I replaced the zipper, added real belt loops and they didnt offer the 30" when I bought mine.

I have had a pair of their weather pants for 5 years. These are the best summer pants I have owned. The sizing is set for adventure racers so there really is not any room for a gut, if you got that. They dry out very fast and I have lived in a pair for 3 weeks! Only issue I have is they are not for the hard brush--Thorns and such hit the skin easy. I guess you cant have super breathability and brushproof. Anyways get some, you wont be disapointed.

Thanks, the 30" may even be to long for me.
I am a 30" inseam, but I have found the Deluth work pants I have bought at 30" need to be taken up, as they run long.

These Railrider pants do look very durable, and I do like the cargopant style better.
I quit wearing the regular type pants long ago.

I hate puny zippers too.
I have three pairs of nice Columbia cargopants that have had to have better zippers added after the little ones broke on me.

I wonder if these belts from Cabelas would work.
I have three of them now, and it is the only belt I like.
Cabela's T-Lock Web Belts
They are 1.25" wide.

Corey, Railriders pants are tops. I bought a pair of weatherpants on the advice of a friend prior to my trip to the Atlas Mountains. Tough as nails, light, cleaned up easily in hotel sinks and dried quickly in Morrocan air. I thought they were spendy before I used them but once I owned them, I quickly realized they were a justifiable expense.

Several guys on our (now defunct) Adventure Racing team used Railriders products and swore by them. You will not be disappointed.

The EAP will fit a 1.5" belt, barely.

I have the Weatherpants and the Ext Adv Pant (and unadvertised shorts). I think the EAP is the best model due to more pockets and clean appearance. I also like the double reinforced cuff, which the weatherpant doesnt have.

I dont care for the Versatac cargo pockets style, but the gossip is the lights are best.

I do like them but I lost one of the buttons over the winter. I need to find a quick fix so I can keep these field pants in the mix. From the Expo pant thread:http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=374389#post374389
I have two pairs of Rail Riders Weatherpants that I was given to test out.
These pants are tough for a fast drying nylon pant. My goto expo paint.

Other expo quick drying pants that I have to compare them to are ExOfficio Amphi pants. #1 in warm weather and fastest in drying. These just do not cut it in the thorns.

Arcterx Palisade pant is a slim fitting pant that works well in fast scrambles up mountains after work. Dry quick and 3way strech fabric that has a light water repelent.

Patagonia Field Pants (discontinued) Like the GI paints but with a button and fly. My old goto expo pant. These I could wear to the office every day but mine have too many burn holes from sitting too close to a :campfire: I would say these are like light duty Rail Riders.

My REI convertible pants are nice but the zipper broke early and I made a field repair so REI would not take them back.

And last I have a pair of Columbia pants that is tough as the rail riders but they are built using the heavy material throughout not just on the seat and knees like the Rail Riders.

And for Rail Riders and Exofficio using bug repelent in their products. I'll pass. I will put on bug dope when I need it. I just do not want it for every day use.

Finally just ordered a pair.

Been looking the better part of the day at REI, Columbia, and a few other sites for some nice light weight nylon cargo pants.
I even looked at the 5.11 Tactical by Gall's.
I have a all nylon black pair from them I bought about four years ago, and I like them.
However they no longer have them in 100% nylon, they are now in 100% cotton for the same style.

I have the Deluth cargo work pants which I wear at work and really like them, but they are to heavy for camping.
Maybe for the winter, but way to heavy for the summer.
I could have used the Railriders on my trip to Mt. Rainier where the black flies were pretty bad.
If I have to cover up on a hot day, I want light weight nylon, not heavy cotton.

I looked at all Exofficio and Mountain Khaki had to offer in a nylon cargopant, and I was not feeling the vibes I wanted to from them.
Plus you have to pick your waist size, and I much prefer picking a pant in a size such as large or extra large, as they have some stretch built into them and often fit better.

Hope to have these by the end of the week so I can see if I got the right size and the quality matches from what I have read about them.

Will get more if I like them.
They are on sale right now for $80 too.
More money than the other brands, but these seem to look a lot better.
No sunscreen factor or bug shield built in them though like other brands have.

I just want to get off of their snail-mail junk mail list. No amount of phone calls seem to work. I've even talked to the owner and he could care less. Why do business with a company that is more interested in sales than service?

I lost the metal button on a pair of Backcountry Khakis, called them to order a replacement. I was told a replacement wasn't possible because they no longer use that type of button. Without asking they offered to send a pair with the new style button for free including shipping. That's good service

Now that is great customer service.
Send out a free pair of pants that retail for around $74.00.

A little late for your review Corey but I've got a pair of TAD Gear Force 10 Cargo Utilities in Nylon that I really like that have shown their value in the Mid-Atlantic's heat and humidity this summer so far. American made, tough as nails, easily cleaned with a little water (even grease), and uber-expensive.

They might be too "tactical" for your tastes but they have other items avaiable too.

After the tongue lashing from the spouse because of the price I can see I have a quality pair of trousers that will last a long time; that's good because the wife said she would bury me in them.

Good customer service too because they recalled their pants because the inner coin pocket wasn't securely back-stitched at no charge to customers and pulled their inventory for repair. You don't see that level of integrity too often in the garment industry.
