RAM Mounts for GPS

I have two RAM mounts for my PN-40, and both work really well. I have the tube mount bolted to the A-pillar grab handle in my Tacoma and it is very sturdy. If you grab the mount and move it back and forth, it moves the whole pillar. I also have the suction cup base for using the holder in other vehicles, and I just move the arm + holder from one base to the other. It's definitely the strongest mounting system I've seen; way sturdier than the ball-type mount that came with my Garmin Nuvi.

I use a ram mount to hold the GPS on the motorcycle and the thing doesn't move. Depending on the bike I've had the post both vertical and horizontal and no problems either way. On the bike that has the horizontal mounting, there is visible vibration, but that is the result of the sheet metal the ram base is mounted to rather than the ram mount.

Good products.

I love the RAM mounts and have been using one in my Jeep for about five years now. The cradle for the Garmin 60-series GPSs break over time with use. They came out with an "improved" version with a reinforced, thicker plastic neck but in my experience it didn't help matters and that one broke as well. I went out of my way to be as gentle as possible with putting the GPS in and taking it out, but I do it often and I think the plastic just fatigues.

The RAM mount folks were great about replacing my cradle every time it broke, but after the third time I declined their offer to replace it yet again and switched to using a Garmin bike mount cradle. It too cracks with use, but at the top of the hoop, which doesn't make the cradle useless like when the neck breaks on the RAM-made cradle. This solution has worked long-term.

The base and the rest of the mount have been flawless.
