Rear Bumper Build

I plan on the rear recovery point being a hitch I've not yet installed.

The "saggy look" is a combination of slightly tweaked frame brackets and a rushed installation after a twelve hour welding day.

Its currently primered, took a few hours yesterday to wire wheel the whole thing. I didn't have time to do that before going on leave and I just got back Friday night.

Made some more progress today, straightened up the mounting position, and began fabrication the tide carrier swingarm. Now I just need to have it welded up.

Roger, I know all about those.

Glad you got some primer on there. I learned early on that it really blows to get lazy and figure that you'll paint it later - kicked myself in the *** on a few projects that I let rust up.

Looks great! That will be a stout tire carrier, for sure. Be careful when you're welding the bearing tube for your carrier; don't want to cause too much warpage. I know you know, but don't weld it with your bearing races in, either.. I know a guy who did that once.. wasn't me, of course...

Thinking of using a De-Sta-Co latch to hold the swing arm closed?

Yeah I wish I would have painted it the day I welded it, I would have made much more progress this weekend. But a few hours with the angle grinder, some rust converter for the less accessible spots and then a coat of self-etching primer.

The tire carrier feels strong, we'll see how it holds up. Thanks! I don't know much about welding I just hand the pieces over and watch haha. That would suck, the hinge was not cheap.

That's the plan, along with a small piece of rubber or delrin to rest the end on. I need to order a new latch though, the ones I have now are much too small.
