Redthies,

Been a while since I read about this. I replaced my ZF5 on my truck the week I bought it, then learned about this and it was too late.

These are a couple of the posts/write ups. It is a little more involved than I remember, transmission, transfer, lengthen drive shafts, x-shifter arm mods?, pound the floor a little.

Might be a long hike for a short slide with this conversion unless you are hauling a 60' gooseneck.

If you do swap transmissions, when you have it taken out replace the 'up-pipe' doughnuts, and gaskets. It is damn near impossible from the top or bottom with the transmission in.

Time for an update. We just completed a 5000 mile loop from Seattle east to Pocatello, south through Flaming Gorge, SW Wyoming to Grand Junction Co, then down through Telluride, Cortez and Mesa Verde. A brief loop around Shiprock, up through Monument Valley, Flagstaff, Kingman Az, hammer across the Mojave to Ventura Ca. A week and a half of surfing at Rincon, then up the coast all the way to Lincoln City Or. Then the soul sucking "5" back up to BC.

Damn, I'm tired just typing that out, let alone driving it! The truck performed great. I did have a couple of minor issues (AC went out in Co, which made the rest of the desert a bit crappy in 108* weather, and one of my front wheel bearings is now squealing a bit). Neither slowed us down any. I didn't bother taking a proper spare tire due to lack of any place to carry it. I know that's a bit risky, but the new Toyos never missed a beat. Came home with a bunch of cactus spikes in the sidewall lugs, but no issues.

There were many a night spent camping boony style, with a few forest service camps and state/national park nights thrown in to mix with the old farts in 40' mo-hos. The new camper is a real treat. Ice old beer in the fridge, and magnum ice cream bars in the freezer after 8 hrs of driving with the fridge off. It adds a certain glam aspect!

Pics will be added tomorrow if I can get them loaded...

excited for pics. could have had a crew cab get together while you were in grand junction!

I was looking out for Chris' truck, but went down the 50 and didn't get east of Whitewater. I will post pics as soon as I get the laptop out of the gun safe. Now where are those darn keys??

I owe a few pics from the august trip to "Dez fest". Pigs be a roastin! Dez has 50 acres on the pacific, a big *** rotisserie, and a tiger torch to make cracklins!

After the feed and two bands at Dezfest, we headed south. Enjoy the scenery. There are even a few bottle shots for Chilli...

Redthies,

Like the rest have said, excellent pics, thanks for posting about your trip.

Sorry I missed you, I was rowing the Grand for 21 days. Great time.

This forum however is mostly about vehicles, and mine will be getting a suspensionectomy in about two weeks so I will take pictures of the project and try to root through the computer for all the other mods it has and post up.

Cheers, Chris

Thanks for the compliments! I was up at 5:00 to help get the pig going. I got in right at the start (150 people followed), in case I needed to help carve, so I got the super crispy trotter meat!

It's true the forum is mostly the tech side of fullsize, but I figured I would keep my trip pics in with the mod pics. Most of the people who might want to see what the truck gets used for are here in this sub forum.

I can't wait to see how the superduty/obs love-in turns out!

Redthies,

The pics should be with the mods I agree, I just meant I would post my rafting stuff elsewhere and finally start a build thread. Stay tuned to this channel. :)

Is that a picture overlooking the Delores water chute?

Cheers, Chris

Yup, Delores flume. I figured someone would know it. I have friends in Norwood and Sawpit, so kinda had to go that route and see it again. Beautiful part of the world! My wife said "why would we want to go to Telluride, we live in a ski town". Now she says "when can we buy a ranch here?". Colorado was a highlight of the trip.
