Refilling 1lb tanks at home

It can be a challenge to find a certified professional willing to help noob DIYers

but IMO worth doing when you get to deadly serious volumes like that.

Not saying the right sort of nerd noob cannot figure things out and remain safe, but...

I met a guy using horizontal forklift 40# aluminium bottles built into the trailer, converted to accommodate both gas output and liquid for decanting into smaller tanks.

He was very confident, and I was happy to share his BBQ outside

but would have been wary living inside, unless I had a professional at least informally sign off on it.

Those are used. I wouldn’t want to buy one of these used.

That's not accurate. The link I included was to the brand new kits from Flame King shipped by Amazon. Let me try including the link again:
Unfortunately flame king doesn't seem to sell individual 1lb bottles anymore (or they are not currently available). You can still get a bottle with the kit though.

I want a portable tank for long term camping... something I can move around outside or inside. Rather than having a 20 lb tank and using it to refill 1 lbs, why not one or more 5 or 11 lb tanks that I have filled at the store? Seems like they'd be small enough to handle and it would save some mucking around.

I think the 5’s have gotten pretty pricey but would last forever with good care.

Local propane shop, or even a general gases dealer should be able to inspect and update the date stamp for $15-40
