Regular cab short bed 1/2 tons

As much as I love a full-size, since the width won't change from 1/2 ton to 3/4, or standard cab to crew, why not get a midsize? Plenty of lift options for those.

Is there a midsize singlecab truck available now? I thought all manufacturers dropped it, after continued decline in sales.

Clearly it's the first one and definitely not the second one. All those other people in other countries don't know how practicality works they need us to come help them out and show them how to be practical with four door utes.
There were 4 door utes...

It's weird how midsize single cab utes are available everywhere else in the world...

I wonder if that's because Americans are just unique & don't have lifestyles comparable with those of people in every other country on Earth or if maybe it has something to do with the CAFE regulations that tie acceptable fuel consumption with a vehicle's footprint incentivizing manufacturers to sell more vehicles with longer wheelbases.

Agreed, we should definitely take lifestyle, practicality and safety cues from other countries.

And don’t forget, they don’t have full-size rigs, either. ?

Dealers buy what they can SELL.

That means not everybody is going to git what they want.

Our society has a "Herd/Heard" mentality when it comes to life and vehicle purchases.

Folks repeat what they "Heard" and follow the "Herd" when comes to vehicle purchases.

Those Millions of Dollars of advertising does work wonders convincing you to be like everybody else!

I think buyers have a pretty good selection now. Ford even (still) offers the F150 in a single-cab and manual windows!

But they just don’t sell. Yeah, **some** of the single millennials and empty nesters may want them. That’s a fraction of the new truck market. Most can’t afford a new truck anyway. So you’ve got a fraction of a fraction of the buyer base wanting a single cab truck.

Meanwhile, myself and most of everyone I know with a crew cab truck have kids, pets, etc. which necessitates 4 doors. Or even my empty-nester friends, DINK’s, etc. want more in-cab storage and passenger room than cargo space. Nobody wants a single cab.

Yes, manufacturers spend millions on marketing. But they’re not dumb. They’ll advertise what will sell.

I am a non-kid couple guy and I wanted a single cab, but I realize that I am in the extreme majority in that respect. That said, I get more hell yea's, thumbs up and kick ****** comments about this stripped down single cab truck than I did on the last four loaded out models combined so there's definitely something there in regards to the nostalgia or cool factor, either of which I could care less about .

Singlecabs definitely has the nostalgic cool factor. Same with my friend, who got the fist pumps and thumbs up with his Int Scout II as well. He loved it (until it broke down every other block ?). Though, big part of the cool factor is the very fact that they are not practical for most folks.

I, myself, have been very vocal about my retirement plans/rig. It’ll be a single cab 1-ton with a FWC. But I’m also well-aware that’s not what sells nor what majority of the people want/need.

For now, crew cab is what I need.

I'd have a Reg cab Short box if they didn't require a special order from the dealership for MSRP plus and zero incentives. This is prior to Covid BS as well
Somehow a SCAB or SCREW with 301-302a package costs 2-3k more than a Reg cab Short box 4x4 with a 300a because they were incentivized up the wazoo.
I found an STX RCSB on the lot at a blow out price once 8 years ago.
Had I known my wife would decide we aren't having kids, I'd have bought one in 2013, but thinking ahead, thought maybe I shouldn't spend 25k on a Reg cab Short box only to give it up a few years later. Here we are in 2021 with no kids and now a Reg cab Short box similarly equipped is 45k!!!!

The dealership I bought from in Idaho were giving the same deals on special order as the in-stock inventory. Little over 20% off of MSRP. My local dealers wouldn’t budge from MSRP. This was all pre-Covid.
If I had no kids, I’d go single cab as well. Although I’d consider an extended cab as well. It’s nice to have a little more storage behind the seats (I’d rip the seats out).

But then the wheelbase and overall length go up
I managed with my 08 Supercab ranger, a Reg cab Short box full size is wider but similar otherwise. Wider longer box so more room there, 3 person bench seat if you need. Biggest downside is no room in cab for any sizeable items. Just some soft stuff behind the seats really.
