and so it begins ...

Ordered an Avic Z2 in-dash NAV/DVD with backup camera and XM tuner. :jump:

Wish I could to have it before heading to Crown King this coming weekend, if only to play with it while actually out of familiar surroundings. ;-)

Probably order the OME kit later this week. woohoo.

Here are my other rides ...

2004 BMW M3 Coupe with a few mods; she can now sit safely in the garage during the week while the truck serves as my daily driver.

Welcome!

Nice Taco!!

OT: How did you like the Audi S4? B5/6/7? I have been eye-ballin' these for a little while now.

Rob-
Do you have the suspension components installed yet? I am thinking of going with essentially the same setup.
Thanks for the insight,
Nick

Thanks Chuck.

Mine was a B5 (2001) and out of the near 30 cars I've owned it was by far my favorite. My wife still kicks me for selling and I have regrets of my own, though I do like the M3. Mine was 'Stage II' (chip and exhaust) and put out a dyno proven 300+hp and 375+ lb ft; 0-60 times were in the low 5s. Not bad fora little grocery getter wagon. :D

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me (on any of the platforms, B5, B6 or B7).

Not yet. I've been researching the ******** out of different setups, from the common C/O kits to hybrid mixes of springs/dampers. In the end, for *my* needs, the OME 885/6 with OME front struts and Dakar rear (less a spring) with OME rear shocks is the optimal setup.

Barring any part availability issues, I should have the kit mid-March and will get it installed straight away ... so look for an initial review in April sometime. (here's a review I wrote on the suspension setup I had on my Audi S4 Avant)

I have been looking at a few myself. It does seem like the OME setup with the Dakars is a solid, all around system. Nice 'getter' you had there

Avic Z2 installed ...

Received the NAV/DVD/AV stuff over the past week and decided to tackle install on my own, partly because I wanted a clean install of the additional bits (antennae, backup cam, etc) and partly because I didn't want to pay someone $250 for what was reportedly a fairly straight foward job.

Total cost: $1,540 (HU, XM, BUC, harness & dash kit, S&H)

Total time to install: 9 hours

I took my time and did the install over a couple days, ensuring all connections were solid, everything was wired properly and routed cleanly. I don't have a lot of install pics, since there are plenty of "how-to's", but here area couple.

Started mid-afternoon, got everything lined up and ready to roll:

Ended up working well into the night. Look at all those frickin' wires!

And several hours later ... she was done!

I chose to mount the GPS and XM antennas on that flat lip where the front quarter panels, hood and A-pillar meet. Nice and clean.

Here's where I mounted the camera for now. It's in a precarious position and could easily get torn off. Until I can do a custom hidden/concealed install, I tried to tuck it up in a relatively protected spot (i.e., the receiver hitch should help shield it from bad departure angle situations).

I hid the microphone behind the driver's side A-pillar trim panel and drilled holes for a clean look. This was a test; I have a new trim piece on the way and will do the final (read: much cleaner) job on that one using smaller holes in a more consistent pattern. Regardless, it works perfectly.

And a couple more shots of the finished product. I actually broke the Scosche dash kit (panel) and have to order another; I photoshopped out the ******k-up. :D

Playing with some of the toys/features (you can see the cracked in the next couple):

Backup cam view ... with a view of my poor M3, which has been relagated to parking outside the garage the last few days while the truck has been getting all the love in the garage. :-/

looks pretty slick man,,, you might get into dead spots with the sattelite's from pillar interference, if you need to "aquire" the signal often or at certain times thats prolly the reason.

Very clean install.

A pile of wires like that would scare most of my garage friends away!
Clean install, I dig it.
