Rock slider designs. Kick outs or no Kick outs?

Some fabricators are creating rock sliders that use a kick out at rear of the slider.
What are your opinions of the kick out design? Do you think they are useful? What protection do they offer and, would you use both a front and rear?

It seems that the bump out may deflect some things away from your vehicle. I have an 02 Xterra and the wheel wells bulge out a bit from the vehicle.

Stubbs Welding has several designs with Kick outs at the rear and one or two with Kick outs at the front of the slider. www.stubbswelding.com

Here is what the double kick out looks like on an FJ.

I like the AJ Armor's SuperSquares, and may incorporate some bump outs into my design.

I will be building my own set here soon out of all 2x2 square 3/16 and 1x2 rectangle 11 gauge. I'm trying to gather some info on folks who might use the bump out or know someone who does.

Thanks guys.

The kickout can be great for protecting your rear quarter panels, but at the same time it does typically increase your overall width. Meaning that it can be a disadvantage at times too...like any narrow passages with a steep slope on one side.

I currently run a slider w/o a kickout and plan to do tube fenders to protect the rear quarter panels.

I had mine custom made with kickouts and kickups. the kickouts can be used as a "pivot" point to slide around if needed, but for the most part, they are just there to offer more protection. It is very useful on my tacoma, as it has the fender flares that stick out. The kickups I have offfer even more protection on the rear panel.

I love them:

Rock rails with the full length kickout is the tried and true method of wagon owners in the northwest. We use rock rails to pivot off of trees and rocks to navigate through our tight twisty trails.

close enough to not take away ground clearance, but far enough to protect the body from trees or vertical rocks.

Stubbs makes great gear, and more than likely my next set will be from him with the rear kickouts.

A little kick out to protect fender flairs is ok in my book. I really like the pair on the taco on the previous page. that being said, I bought a set of TG for the 4runner and they work fine. not the prettiest out there but very functional so far. of course I had to add a little steal that TG does not think of but that is my opinion

I didn't really think about pivoting using the rear bump out. That seems like it would be very helpful in tight situations.
