Roof storage ideas

As I'm prepping for Ursa Minor i realized that I want more 'cargo' capacity outside of the jeep. The cargo box stores chairs, small standup shower, folding porta potty chair with wag bags, compressor, rope, tarp and other fairly light items that take up room and I want to keep away from the elements.

Next to it I want to be able to have the ability to throw a bundle or two of firewood, maybe attach some recovery gear (recovery tracks or something like that).

Came across someone selling the bestop 'tray' for $60 shipped so I snagged it as it's lightweight and can support up to 75lbs of weight which is more then plenty for that high up. Temporarily I am using hose clamps to secure it for figuring out where and how I want it to sit. I'll be ordering some square ubolts for permanent installation.

I have a yakima rack on my Ursa Minor top. I've hauled kayaks up there and while it is handy for keeping my length down the biggest negative I found is that I have to take everything off of the roof to push it up. I also noticed increased sway out on the road which prompted me to upgrade the rear sway bar with one from Hellwig. After a trip last year I decided no more than one kayak on the Jeep so I modified a trailer to accept my Thule load bars and kayak racks. I wouldn't have found parking at the boy scout tree with a trailer though so there's always a compromise!

Some ideas for storage with pop-top campers from the Land Rover idea thread...

A concept drawing I did after seeing some of the Land Rover "over windshield" racks:

The OP’s rack is similar to my setup, and it is versatile as to what I can carry up there. One pic is of a 40 gallon water tank. No RTT for us. We sleep inside on foam cutouts. Yes we pack lightly.

I see that you took the idea of hot water showers while traveling to a whole new level :)

Joking aside, this is so far working out great for me. Haven't used it while camping yet, but I have already thrown some stuff up there that I didn't want to carry inside the jeep.
