Foley's Overland

Our last stop was at Foley's Overland. I was impressed with the team there, and their approach to vehicle modification. They really keep the vehicles simple, and with minimal modification. A classy operation.

A brand-new RTW LHD 110. There are only about 20 of these left as new in the UK.

Another 110 being built for South America by a French-American. This is Foley's special vehicles bumper.

They typically install dual shocks on the rear of the heavy trucks. Foley's only uses factory shocks and factory mounts. They run 20-30 trucks per year London to Cape Town. It was interesting to see what they have found to really work - for them.

If you buy a 4x4 with no rear windows or rear seats it's classified as a commercial vehicle and you don't get hit with the 4x4 tax.

Many are buying the commercial versions and then retro fitting windows and seats.

It's the worldwide sport of navigating around regulations and taxes.

Lois Pryce and a few adventurers

On the last day, we stopped to meet Tom Sheppard (this will be another thread) and then went to an underground French wine bar to meet up with a few interesting folks.

Nick Taylor, Exxero and Sagen Media
Toby Savage, Photographer with major trips into the Sahara
Austin Vince of Mondo Enduro
Lois Pryce, Lois on the Loose, one of the most accomplished solo motorcycle adventurers.
Martin Solms (taking the picture), London to Cape Town and operator of Africa Overland

After dinner, we stayed with Lois and Austin, and greatly enjoyed their hospitality and stories of adventure. Austin has a wonderful perspective on adventure travel, which is buy a cheap Suzuki and GO!

This is their awesome Dutch sailing barge.

Looks like someone slipped a "mickey" in Graham's drink... Lois too for that matter... Something going on at that end of the table?
