RTT bed quality?

Thinking about throwing a RTT on my 4runner. I haven't slept in a tent in years though because my back just doesn't do well on the ground. Are the mattresses in these RTTs any good? Has anyone thrown a memory foam topper on one? Is there room for that? Thanks for any input!

Most come with a 3" foam mattress. Almost every single one I've seen has room for pillows and bedding while still being to fold up so another topper would easily fit. BUT, I don't think an extra topper AND pillows and bedding will fit.

If you're a side sleeper I would recommend an extra topper, but sleeping on your back or front the 3" foam mattress is more than comfortable enough.

James Baroud with the stock matress, no complaints and sleep better than at home due to being outside camping.

I've got a Howling Moon RTT, 3" mattress, it's ok, gets kinda hard in colder weather, warm weather is nicer. Thinking about a new latex foam mattress, or maybe an air pad on top of the foam. But then, I've got bad shoulders and had back surgery, so maybe I'm "sensitive", HA!

I've got a CVT RTT and slept in it every night for 3 weeks in late August/early September in AK, YK, NWT. No problems with comfort or mattress getting hard. Take the time to find level ground or level your ride (I used air bags) so you don't roll around too badly but otherwise it's warmer than a ground tent for sure.
