THESE! http://www.amazon.com/IRIS-4-Piece-...=UTF8&qid=1421770405&sr=8-3&keywords=iris+tub

These have to be the best tub I've ever used. I've got six of them already. I bought my first one at costco of all places and was instantly impressed. Water tight, tough, stackable, lockable, good size, and reasonably priced. $122 gets you 4. Hard to beat!

I keep food in one, recover gear in another, tents\sleeping bags in yet another...and it all stays stored really nicely!

Nice! Quite a number of improvements over the Action Packers

This is the container that I ended up purchasing.
Very durable, weather tight (rubber gasket), doubles as a seat/step/table...great all around product.
I just wish it came in some different dimensions...a bit shorter and wider to keep the same capacity, and cut down on the overall height of the trunk.

I like the idea of those Iris tubs. My only qualm would be that they don't have wheels, but you either forfeit interior space or overall dimensions for wheels so I could understand. My problem is that I've gotta go over the river and through the woods to get to my 4R from my apartment and filling that guy with a tent, stove, lantern, etc. Will probably get real heavy real quick.

The Plano containers are very durable.
However, they don't have a rubber gasket to seal the lid.
I actually ordered the Sportsman model, believing it did have a rubber gasket, but upon receiving the product there was no gasket.
I returned it.
If the gear is on the roof, it has got to be in a four season/weather tight container.
Good Luck

i have an 8 gal AP for my recovery tools, best part is I can easily transport from one vehicle to another and if needed can throw it up on the roof rack. Will look into the Iris tubs too, hopefully they make a smaller size to use as a chuck box.

I'm considering giving these Plano trunks a shot, http://www.amazon.com/Plano-191900-Parent-1919-Sportsmans-Trunk/dp/B00HZ09ZV8

Anyone have any experience with them?

you can get them cheaper on Academy (only sold in stores though)

i have one of those in which i transport the sleeping bags, thermarests, and backpacks with clothes... i have had them outside in moderate rain, and they have kept everything inside dry and basically dust free, even without a gasket... they also have tie down points to secure them with bungee cords to cargo racks...

Fronrunner wolfpack boxes is what I recommend
I have six of those and four of them are broken, but still usable. I have more than a dozen Action Packers with all kinds of crap in them and none have broken. The only problem with the Action Packers is that if you load them with heavy stuff and then stack them 4-high in a hot garage, the one on the bottom will deform and then the latches tend to be sloppy. The Wolf boxes pack more efficiently because of their more rectangular shape, and they interlock more securely, but one sharp blow or drop and they crack.
