Rugged food sealer?

Yes, it does seal better with the thicker bars.

I realize Cabela's does not actually make their products. Most of their stuff is also made in China. But it is usually made to a higher standard than most China stuff. I am a hunter & fisherman as well. I certainly do not do thousands of pounds a year though, I tip my hat to you sir, thats awesome. I have also found that I use about 3" less bag per seal with the Cabela's unit. From the seal to the cutter is about 3" on my unit, so you are wasting 6" of bag for each bag you seal, if you make your own bags from a roll like I do. That adds up quick when doing a lot. The Cabela's 15" unit only wastes about an inch per seal. I find myself always using the double seal feature. Not that i have had leaks, it is just good insurance. I also like the fact that i can use 8" rolls, 10" rolls, 12" rolls & 15" rolls from any manufacturer. THAT comes in handy around me---especially during hunting season & all the stores "we can't order anything, we just get what we get" way of doing business these days. I tried to buy a fan at a big box store during the winter & was told, "they are packed up till summer."

I get it that you obviously have some sort of issue with Foodsaver.

Thats fine. As I said, their all imported. So quality control may be rough.

You obviously got a bad one.

But maybe you should get your story straight??

So, if i am working & my kid & wife are not, & she gives them the money to buy it for me---that makes my story "not straight" ??

Ok, sir, once again, I will agree to disagree. No issue with foodsaver persay---I think i can speak for many when i say, I just flat out hate wasting money & seeing anyone else waste money. If i can help someone to avoid what i went through, I think they would appreciate it. I know i would have.

So, I guess i am guilty of trying to help. Sorry. :)

That's all fine.

Just don't kid yourself into thinking your one experience is a reflection of the actual brand.

Also, if you are doing a bunch of vac-sealing like we do at my place, check these guys out for rolls.

And yes, contrary to the thinking that foodsaver machines only work with foodsaver brand bags, these bags do work.

They also come in a variety of sizes, and works out to be substantially cheaper.

The FVB bags aren't bad. I prefer the Cabelas house brand or Vacmaster.

The Foodsaver bags I've never liked and they are one of the more expensive ones.

You typically get more for your money buying pre-sized bags vs the rolls if you find you use a particular size a great deal. (What I do for salmon & albacore). It also makes it much quicker when your sealing 100 bags at a time to not have to seal both sides of the bag.

Interesting.

So your actually seeing a cost savings buying bags vs rolls?

Or is it the (obvious) time savings when needing a load of identical size bags?

We've always seen a pretty substantial cost savings using rolls.

But our uses dictate custom bag sizes.

Back to the OP's question: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...Code=as2&tag=tcb77-20&linkId=QTJXKOGYUATODLMU
This is the same maker of the Cabela's 15" sealer & looks exactly the same except for color. Specs are the same. Anyways, when i first posted on this thread, it was on super sale for $300 @ Cabela's, & if you have a coupon for $20-$50 off, that's even better.

I can see where it would cut your time in half by buying the bags with one end sealed & would also be very handy when doing large quantities of the same thing. The rolls work well for us as many times it is vastly different sized things we are sealing. Don't limit it to just food though. I have a change of socks,u-ware & t-shirt & gloves vacume sealed in my hunting gear--in case i ever fall in/through the water, as well as a towel, w-cloth & soap in a separate one for clean up after the gutting. If you are an avid outdoors person , fire starting gear is also nice to have in a waterproof bag.

Good luck with your purchase.

I first looked into bags & sealers when i was in the US Army, in Germany, in 1981. I could find nothing then that could fit a pair of uniform pants or shirt. Then one day in the PX in Kaiserslautern/Landstuhl, I found some 2 gal ziplock bags. I bought a bunch of them & other sizes. Next time we went to the field, we arrived to find all our duffel bags in a huge puddle, completely soaked. (Someones idea of a bad joke i guess). It sure was nice to have all my stuff nice & dry.

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting FoodSaver, a brand of Jarden Consumer Solutions. We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with your Vac1075 and will be happy to help you.

The Vac1075 has a 1-year limited warranty.

Here are some troubleshooting tips to try:

1) Remove the lower gasket, turn it over and re-insert it into the track that runs around the vacuum channel. Also, check the other gaskets.
2) It may be necessary to pre-freeze moist/soft food items to prevent moisture from compromising an effective vacuum/seal. These items include meats, fish, poultry, soft fruits, and blanched vegetables.
3) Test your FoodSaver by operating it without a bag. Allow the unit to complete the cycle. When the unit shuts off, lift the lid and gently touch the heat strip. If it is hot, please try to seal another bag.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your business and are happy to help if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Destiny
Jarden Consumer Solutions
