S.O. Prelander - My 2018 Raptor Build

So this has been a bit of a slow process, but since it's expensive, it has to be slow.

I've had my truck for 2.5 years so far and plan to keep it for a while. Just did a trip to Colorado, Arizona, Utah and NM from New Jersey. 12 days and hit a lot of areas. I've done many of the places before 16 years ago but it was time to give this a shot with my wife and see if we can start planning overland/camping trips going forward.

The plan for this truck is something along the lines of a truck I can hit whoops in around 70-80mph and still use as either a camper trailer tow rig or keep the tent that I have on it now and use it as a basecamp.

I have broken the build into three phases.

Phase one:
  • Icon 2.25" Perch Collars
  • Icon Leaf Springs at option 2
  • SDHQ A Pillar Light Mounts
  • Baja Designs XL sports with amber lenses
  • 5x Method Race Wheel 705s in Matte Black 17x8.5 00mm offset
  • 37x12.5r17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires with spare
  • SDHQ Bed mounts for spare tire
  • Alpine Straps rear Y tire strap
  • Leitner Designs Classic Bed rack system with 1x Single Gear Pod, 1x Dual Gear Pod, Universal Mounting Plates, and a Hydropod mounted to the rack
  • GoFSR Apsen Lite Tent
  • MPT Tune 87 tow and 93 PRX
Phase One is complete..

Phase Two:
  • King IBP 3.0 Coilovers with External reservoirs (will keep current shocks for rebuild swap outs)
  • King 3.0 Rear Shocks in factory location
  • Upgrade my Baja Designs XL Sports to XL80s through BD
  • Evil MFG front Frame Cut bumper with push bar attach for 4 LP9 Baja Designs, 2 amber, 2 clear
  • Cobb Front Mount Intercooler for bumper to fit.
  • Evil MFG rear bumper with sensors
  • Interior Radio for group rides (TBD)
  • Third Brakelight chase lights by Evil MFG
  • Rack Chase lights added
  • Garmin or Lowrance GPS for BAJA runs

Phase Three:
  • Blitzkrieg Offroad or RPG mid travel kit with bypass shock mounts
  • King 3.0/3.5 Bypass shocks up front
  • King 4.0x18 rear Bypass shocks with bed cage mount by SVC or Evil
  • Fiberglass by ADV +2 or McNeil +2
  • Frame plating, lower control up lockouts for stiffness and reinforcement
  • Possible roof rack by sherpa/leitner with 7 lp6 Baja Design lights (may not need..)
  • Company Wrap for Spirit Overland, new company I am working on.
Phase Four (possible):
  • Custom Bed rack system build into bed/rearframe for RTT and Accessories to replace Leitner
  • 4 Link rear by SVC.

There are some changes that could come along the way but this is the plan over the next 2-3 years (Phase one is done, phase 2 will be next)

Progress photos will be in the next few posts.

If anyone has questions, shoot me a pm.

Looks awesome!
Question though.... Why go to phase 2 and just not go to phase 3?
Unless I'm understanding wrong you're changing rear shocks a few times?

That is a good question, I could just go 4.0x18 bypasses straight away and they are sometimes cheaper than the factory replacements. At least for the rear, the phase three will be the front mid/long travel (most likely mid) and will require more work.
