Sankey Narrow Track

So, I bought a Sankey (why not, it's made by Land Rover, and I drive a Range Rover).

It's unrestored, with 7 or 8 layers of paint. Here are some "before" pics:

Immediate plans include:

New 3500lb Axle with Electric Brakes and 5x120 hubs (to fit Range Rover Wheels) (Bought)
Range Rover LR3 18" Wheels with 275x65x18 Goodyear DuraTrac Tires (bought)
Fill the Holes drilled in the body (in process)
Scrap the Lunette Hitch
Install Adventure Trailer Hitch (bought)
Extend Tongue so I can jacknife the trailer without it hitting the Range Rover (in process)
Pull out the AON Rubber Spring to see if the leaf springs flex at all!
Sandblast
Paint

In the Future:
Lid
RTT Mount (telescoping like the CAMPA Trailers)
Slide Out Kitchen
Spectre Can Mounts

This is a bit of a longer term project, so I'll keep you informed as I go.

Also, I don't do the work, but fabricator, Castle Fab in Irvine does ALL my work. Welders, sand blasters, wire wheels and I do not mix! Blood ensues when I attempt stuff and I am fond of keeping my blood inside my body.

Watch this thread for progress! It has begun!

Ok - so we have a little progress.

The plan is to extend the tongue so I can jack knife the trailer without damaging the Rover:

Add an AT Hitch:

And install an axle that matches my Range Rover - 5x4.75:

It will have matching Wheels and Tires to this:

Pull off all the old tie down hooks, fill the holes and get the trailer sandblasted:

Then decide what to do next.
Probably a lid and RTT. We'll see.

I'll post more "after" pics later in the week.

The Tires don't even stick out too far! :)

These are 275/70/18 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac's - same wheels/tires as on the Range Rover.

More pics later!

Wheels/tires look great!

I wanted a Sankey for years, but couldn't find one domestically and wasn't willing to pull the trigger and ship from the UK.

Did you buy this one from the recent ad for sale here on ExPo?

I got the trailer sandblasted last week and primered. I'll post up some pics, but needless to say, there will be some metal repair as I have a couple rust perforations that were hidden by the many layers of military paint.

The frame looks great though. So I'll figure out the next steps and post them up here.

So, what are you doing with the Sankey parts that you've removed from the original? I just picked up a Sankey and might be interested in the hubs, brakes, backing plates as well as the draw bar assembly. Yours looks solid, nice find.
