Shocks

Just an update after talking to tech support from KYB, because of the "unique" suspension used on the 01+ sports it severely limits the options of shocks. They have unique mountings built only for this vehicle. Not 100% sure what that means but I am guessing it means good luck... Just thought I would let you all know.

With that said if anyone has experience with a 01+ Sport and the funky rear suspension using different shocks that work well I am open to options.

Sounds like he didn't want to spend time looking up something he wasn't getting paid to do, you can just measure them yourself and start searching, there are likely many shocks that will fit if you simply look for them.

Well, actually i believe they are paid to look that up. If they can find a match it's in KYB's best interest to since I'd buy that shock from them.

Personally I've had them look up several shocks over the past decade and never had an issue with them finding a match if they could.

After looking at Bilstein and Monroe I am sure the people at KYB did their job.

On both Monroe and Bilstein the shocks for the rear on the 00+ sports actually are made only for those vehicles. They do not have any options for them to fit on any other vehicles. So I am not sure what that really means but it doesn't sound good for me, unless I want to shell out the $400+ for the Bilsteins.

For what it's worth. about 6 years and almost 100k miles ago I coughed up the cash for Bilsteins on my VW Passat wagon. Now, I know it's a totally different application but I have owned, and driven countless other vehicles since then; I've tried to replace that car but can't get myself to do it. At the heart of it is how much I enjoy the ride and that Bilstein upgrade has been, and continues to be, worth every single penny.

I run them on my Jeep, Miata, Chevy diesel, and will likely run them on the Montero, nothing really beats Bilstein shocks.
