Shower Idea

If i had an air tight container.
Filled it with water.
Then added compressed air to the container. (to a pre-determind pressure)
Would it push water our of the container?

*The outlet would be plumbed to the bottom of the container

Any feedback would be great:)

just think of a bug/garden sprayer

Now a math question:
Empty space in container+volume of hose=how much pressure?

You can think of the liquid volume as subtracting from the total volume. Liquids are generally considered to be incompressible.
So how much pressure needed depends on your desired flow, how long it has to operate, and the ratio of liquid to total volume. The general equation that models this is P1 = (P2*V2)/V1 (assuming no temperature change).
Where:
P1 = Start Pressure
V1 = Start volume
P2 = End pressure
V2 = End volume
Note that if you want P1 ~= P2 that V1 ~= V2, so you need a large tank with not a lot of water in it.

I made one too. from a stainless weed sprayer. I jsut put a male threaded hose end on it and screw on a watering head that just happens to be a perfect shower head. I am going to make a burner for it now. In all I could have just bought this.

zodi shower at costco $94

But the home made version costs about half that to make yourself and about 5 minutes to change the end on the hose. and screw on the shower head.

using a bug sprayer turned shower on a beach can be problematic because the sand will get into the pumping mechanism, rendering your shower a water tank. Also, the less water in the tank, the more air pressure and better shower. When mine was working, I tried to only fill it halfway for a quick shower in the field.

Thats a good deal on the Zodi. I just wish it had a bigger tank. Has anyone actually ever used this model? Is 3 gallons enough for a shower? I mean, I dont expect to be showering for 15 minutes, but if im going to go through the trouble of heating the water, I would atleast liek to be able to enjoy it.

I have a 16 gallon water tank that I was/am going to put under my truck, and plumb it out using my heat exchanger and water pump, but this look very easy, and simple.

Any reviews?

3 Gallons is enough for a nice long Hollywood shower :shakin:

A Navy shower only requires 1 quart and 2 minutes max :)

That's a great price for the Zodi, especially because it includes the stove stand and the carrying bag. The bag is a nice feature to keep everything together and easy to pack & store. The only drawback to making your own is the lack of a complete "kit." If that's not an issue, then $60 worth of parts at Home Depot will get you a nice shower option.

I have that model. Several folks here have it. I like it. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used it and thought I had used all my water, only to see that I had barely used half of it after my shower.

What's nice is that the small-ish 2.5 gallon can heats up fairly quickly. It is also easy to fill the can in campgrounds that have a water spigot. The Coleman fuel cans are multi-purpose so you're not taking up space for a one-use-only item. I prime it before use and so far have had to prime a second time during use. I fill it fairly full so I may have to try Ursidae's trick of less water for less priming.

The water flow isn't great but that is with the stock shower head. I have a new shower head I'm going to try this year with hopefully a little better water flow. The Zodi is a great kit once you accept that showering in camp and showering at home are two very different things.

Well, I just ordered one. If it doesnt perform like I want it to, ill sell it and go with my heat exchanger set-up. I know that will work, just be more of a pain to install. I figure for a 100 bucks, cant be too much harm in trying it.

I am a little worried about the 3 gallon part, I am a big dude and have more surface area than most on here... :shakin: :D

I think the biggest selling point for me is like someone else said. Its all in one unit, comes with the burner and everything, and it has a carrying bag. I always have 8-10 of the little propane bottles with me as most of my other gear uses the same thing, so thats a plus.

Thanks for the link!

Looking at the Zodi on the Costco page it says that it comes with the 'stove'. Is it totally separate from the stand, and if so has anyone tried using it for camp cooking too?
Really tempting, too bad it won't make it here before my next trip.

The collapsable stove is what you see here on the right -

What makes it collapsable is the three legs detach from the metal ring. The burner is permanently fixed to the metal ring. The burner features a valve to attach the fuel can to. So absolutely yes, you could use it for cooking. It would be great for larger pots that encroach on another burner on a 2 burner stove.

stumptaco, good call on getting one at such a great discount. Even for those with more surface area than average, it works pretty well. It packs up about the same size as a folding camp chair. Now you'll need a shower shelter unless you plan on exposing that mass to the masses. ;)
